Quickbooks Payroll Ripoff,
By
This review is from: QuickBooks Pro w/Enhanced Payroll 2011 - [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
These high star reviews are obviously from new subscribers to Intuit payroll service. Wait until they are forced to upgrade by Intuit at an astronomical price as see what their reviews are. I have QB Pro 2008 that I am being forced to update. The basic payroll subscription through Intuit is now $299.00. Thats for BASIC payroll through Intuit. Not only that, they have downgraded the features substantially for the SAME payroll service. At some point, we the consumers must say ENOUGH! They have obviously monopolized the market so that they can charge whatever they want. I will be searching for new alternatives. Intuit is NOT an honorable company. They are greedy.

QuickBooks - Horrible! Limits and Fees upon Fees!,
By
This review is from: QuickBooks Pro w/Enhanced Payroll 2011 - [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I have 2007, 2009, 2010 version and 2011 is very similar.
If you haven't started using quickbooks don't. There are endless fees especially with payroll. The automatic payroll renew is about 2x more than a retail. Don't know why that is either. If you can avoid starting to use this, do yourself a favor and don't. If I knew this at the begining I would not have started using Quickbooks. The limits on customers is horrible. I just paid $$$ for software and they put a limit on data you store on your own computer. It is not like you are using their space for your customers. Once you pass your customer mark in 1 or 2 years you have to fork up thousands for enterprise version or couple hundred a month! Now your stuck since the data is in. I thought this was only at street corners like drugs first one is free or close to it , then they get you for life.

This review is from: QuickBooks Pro w/Enhanced Payroll 2011 - [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I am a longtime QB user and recently "migrated" from QB online to QB desktop. The techs and salespeople will tell you that such a migration will be quick and painless. That is a blatant lie. I resorted to entering everything manually after a week on the phone with tech support. What you will soon learn is that everyone is very optimistic about solving your problem, but finding an optimistic support rep who knows what they are talking about is nearly impossible. They will be "happy" to help you, or find someone who can... it's like calling into Sesame Street. I was transferred 11 times in an hour and a half, and nobody could answer my question. This is because QB Online and Desktop could be on different planets.
Blaming tech support though is like pinning a natural disaster on the medics that respond. They are just trying to make the best of a horrific situation. A lot of people log into the Intuit support site while they are on hold, consequently much of the support site is complaint after complaint- a lot of questions and very few answers. Frankly, if this was a well polished program I wouldn't mind paying the big bucks, but it acts like a $25 program, not a $250 program. For instance, it has taken me 4 hours to set up 2011, BUT 2010 was already set up. Entering a new product key is not enough- they want you to "register," and instead of transferring simple things like name, address and phone number you have to enter it all again. To activate my payroll I have to go online, enter a bunch of info and THEN do the same on my desktop. The documentation/directions are useless, for instance once I enter the product key and register online I am told to enter my Service Key by going through the "Employee" drop down menu to "Payroll", and yet there is no such option under the employee menu. There is "My Payroll Service," "Payroll Setup," and "Manage Payroll Items," and it's my best guess as to which is supposed to be "Payroll." If you choose door number one there are six more options- "Manage Service Key," is the winner. Add a few more hours of hunting and pecking and you will be up and running, until next year... I will continue purchasing and giving one star reviews until I find a more competent option, but for now, this is the only game in town. As they say, "the floggings will continue until morale improves." Kudos to Intuit for making the product we love to hate.
