I have received the Rapid-I a few days ago and have been typing and gaming on it since. I usually don't write a review this early after receiving the product, but I doubt this keyboard is going to disappoint me down the road.

1. Packaging is standard as per all CM Storm Keyboards. No additional WASD and/or CM windows keycaps were included (Because of the back lighting). Contents included USB cord and warranty/instruction manual.

2. The overall build of the keyboard feels really sturdy with no flex. It is obviously a Ten-Keyless (ABS Keycap) Keyboard which employs a much appreciated minimalistic design. It also has a good weight to it. It actually feels a little heavier than my SteelSeries 6V2 TK keyboard, which is a plus. Retractable feet on the bottom of the keyboard are rubberized and the keyboard DOES NOT slide around on the desktop while typing or gaming. The black matte finish on the keyboard gives the keys a good grip and it does not tend to attract fingerprints, sweat, oil, etc. from the hands as some other keyboards tend to do. The USB port is located on the right side of the keyboard and connects to a braided L-shaped mini USB. While I love this keyboard the USB location and the use of an L-shaped mini USB baffles me. I am not sure why CM Storm decided to go this route. I manage all my peripheral cables to the left on my desk and this setup forces me to bend the cable to the left giving it a tacky and very noticeable appearance. I would of much rather preferred the USB location and cable management system that is on the CM Storm Quickfire Stealth TKL models. Other than that gripe the build is excellent.

3. The Cherry MX Brown switches are fantastic and tactile as usual.

My decision to buy the QuickFire Rapid-i SGK-4040-GKCM1-US was based primarily on features, in the order of:

1. Cherry MX Brown Mechanical Keyboard
2. Tenkeyless
3. Backlit

Pros:

1. White back-lighting is a huge plus. I would NOT buy red or blue.
2. Minimalist design. Exactly what I was looking for.
3. Appears to be a quality-built keyboard (time will tell).

Cons:

One thing: the typeface used on the keycaps looks ridiculous, unless you think you're Batman. Just look at the pictures: the 'B' looks like an 8, the 'P' like an F, and the 'A' like who knows what. It's inconsistent with the minimalist design and goes against the very purpose of backlighting--making keys easier to identify.

This almost forced me into the Corsair Vengeance K65, which is less expensive, has a better looking design, separate media player controls... but no backlighting, and more importantly, Cherry MX Red instead of Brown switches.

Thankfully, I found replacement key caps here:

http://www.amazon.com/Max-Keyboard-Universal-Cherry-Translucent/dp/B00EGJHH0W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1409322683&sr=8-2&keywords=keyboard+key+caps#cm_cr_dpwidget.

I won't be putting up the Spiderman poster in my office after all.

The replacement key caps made this an expensive keyboard, to be sure, but backlit key indicators don't wear off like pad-printed key labels--which is what the Corsair Vengeance K65 uses.

I will say this much: if the Corsair had Brown switches, I would have lived without backlighting and saved some money.

I just received the product yesterday, but this really has quickly become my new favorite.
Other keyboard products I own:
Razer BlackWidow Ultimate (blue switches)
Razer BlackWidow Tournament (razers new green switch, which is close to cherry mx blue)
Roccat Ryos MK Pro (black switches)
Roccat Ryos MK Pro (blue switches)
Corsair K70 (red switches)
Corsair K90 (red switches)
Gigabyte Osmium Aivia (red switches)
CM - Quickfire Rapid Stealth (blue switches)
CM - Quickfire TK (blue switches)
CM - Trigger (x2) (brown switches)

I can already say that I will be buying the keyboard again with Blue Switches. I'll use one at the office and one at home. I really do love the form factor (tenkeyless) and the backlighting options. The backlight was a great addition to the keyboard.

I will be replacing the ABS keycaps with PBT keycaps to give this keyboard a nice, long life.

One note: the relocation of the USB connector on the keyboard is 'different'. Prior products 'hid' the connector, tucked away on the bottom of the chassis. This connector is on the back. While this really isn't a negative to me, others may choose to use this keyboard in an area/environment where this prevents the keyboard from 'fitting'.

Now... if I could just get the new CM Storm Mizar mouse! Until then, I'm using the CM Storm Reaper, which also features white illumination. The products really do look great together, even though the Reaper was intended to be paired with the CM Storm Mech keyboard.

Hello JigsawSaint,

Thank you incredibly for the positive praise and glad to know this keyboard is a strong contender in the market. :)
There was a lot of discussion and pros/cons when redesigning the connector. Though we could have gone with the connector back underneath, tucked away, this sometimes grew issues for gamers on the go and safe travel for the keyboard & cable. Removing cable on the Quickfire TK and the angle to insert it can be issue for some individuals. It's why I don't travel much with mine. It's small, but can make or break someone's experience. Just wanted to offer that bit of enlightenment.

Yet, in regards to the Mizar, keep posted to our website, facebook, twitter, and reddit. We are working diligently, testing the product to meet the high standards our customer's expect and we don't want to disappoint. More news will be available closer to Fall of 2014.

I received the rapid-i today. It comes with a normal looking packaging, nothing special. Inside you will find the keyboard itself, manuals, and a usb cable. At first glance I was quite surprised at how small it was. Even as a gaming enthusiast for years, I have never seen a keyboard without the numberpad. The keyboard's design is nothing special. It looks plain and simple. However there are awesome lighting features. I have owned several mechanical keyboards, all of which make loud click noises when typing. The quickfire rapid-i isn't as obnoxious. The noise seems muffled and typing is smooth as butter. As someone who plays competitively in fps games, I find that having a small compact keyboard is the best way to go. Keyboards with the numberpads are useless, as I never use it during gaming. The problem with a normal sized keyboard is my arm posture rests in an awkward way. The keyboard has to stay at some distance from my mousepad, otherwise the mouse will collide with the keyboard. I think the quickfire rapid-i will be my go to keyboard anytime I use my PC. The only problem I find with this keyboard personally is that it doesn't come with a longer wrist pad. But I have found a solution to that by using a small hand towel :-)

Overall
-Pressing on keys is smooth as butter
-Cool lighting features
-Small and Compact
-Relatively silent for a mechanical keyboard
-Plenty of room between keyboard and mouse
-Comfortable and Durable
-Simple Design
-Manual easy to understand
