The author of this book is well-known to the QTP user community and the first edition of this book was well received by QTP users as a learning tool and a desk reference. This is the second edition and covers up to QTP 11. The examples of code given in the book (and downloadable from the author's website) are very useful, even for an experienced user of QTP, and the book covers a wide range of topics and includes solutions to problems that any tester is likely to encounter.

So that's why I rate this book highly.. but.. I have docked it one star for the following reasons:

- the proofreading and editing of the text in the book is not very good. There are many typos and the language style is a bit strangled. There's a touch of "Indglish" about it (given that the book's largest audience is probably in India, that probably isn't a problem). I'd guess that someone ran a spelling checker over the book, but didn't actually read it to see if the words make sense.

- the update to the second edition is a bit patchy. The new features of QTP11 are included as a separate chapter, rather than integrated into the rest of the text. This is fine for a user who has already used earlier versions of QTP (and has maybe read the first edition of the book) but I think it would be a bit confusing for a new user starting with QTP11 for the first time (and who would be unlikely to encounter QTP 8 or 9)

- some of the material is simply taken from the author's website rather than being unique to the book

- finally although the book is comprehensive, there are still many features of QTP that are untouched.

This is the best book on the subject, by far.

First, it is a very thorough reference on QTP. Yet it is not a bigger and better manual: the book does not focus on how to use QTP. It focuses on how to do test automation with QTP - and these are two very different things, the second being much more useful. The book is written from the standpoint of the test automation engineer rather than that of a company the sells QTP, stresses the automation practice and digs down into solutions.

Second, it is well-organized, and there is no problem to find whatever you need to help you in your day-to-day automation activities. Instead of digging through Q&A on various forums, you have a very good chance of finding what you are looking for in minutes in Tarun's book.

Third, the book is up to date - a precious quality in our changing world.

The only problem I found is a lack of adequate coverage of mobile test automation - yet very few know how to do it indeed (well, I do :) )

The book is a must for anybody who is serious about test automation.

This is the Best book on QTP in the market.I like the way each and every topic spanning the whole tool and its mechanisms accurately explained with examples.Any one who purchases this book can master the tool. The problems at the end of the book if practiced and solved will raise the knowledge levels of an Automation Tester to a lead .

For me this book is like bible and i refer this book to any person from Novice to Expert...Thanks to TarunLalwani for bringing QTP knowledge to everyone for an affordable price.

Many books are written in poor English, or hard to follow, this one stands out as the best ref on QTP. I have learned many things that simplified my testing from this book, and learned some tips and pitfalls that kept me out of trouble. If I lost it I'd buy another copy just to have. It doesn't replace the QTP help, as it refers back to the help function for more basic tasks. But I've bought several books on QTP and this is a keeper.
