5.0 out of 5 stars For the right cables, these are the best.
. I've purchased a dozen or so of these reels (in this and other sizes). They are extremely lightweight but very tough. It's nice to be able to carry just the weight of the cable around, rather than the cable plus all the steel weight of most good reels. The fact that they store well in corners and stack perfectly has been a huge benefit as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fine for small electrical cord, horrible for the big stuff.
I purchased the QuickWinder RAP-200 based on a recommendation from the manufacturer following an email inquiry. I explained that I had 100' of 10 AMP Gen-Tran generator power cord that weighed 35 pounds total. He recommended the RAP 150 or 200. To be on the safe side I ordered the 200. I still have about 15' of cord extending from the bucket and got a nice workout...

. I've purchased a dozen or so of these reels (in this and other sizes). They are extremely lightweight but very tough. It's nice to be able to carry just the weight of the cable around, rather than the cable plus all the steel weight of most good reels. The fact that they store well in corners and stack perfectly has been a huge benefit as well.
.
. On the down side, I've found cables over 1/2" in diameter become problematic to wind up, especially if they've been sitting on cold ground long enough to stiffen. Personally, I love these reels and so do my teams, but they won't use them for cables over a certain size. We use a bulky composite A/V cable that just won't work with these reels.
.
. With that said, if you are storing electrical, microphone, video, rf or even bulk exercise cable, I doubt there's a better manual cable reel out there than those the the QuickWinder company sells. Until Amazon carries the full line, you can go straight to quickwinder dot com to see all they offer.
.
. On a final note, my users (news gathering crews) tend to pick up a lot of dirt, crud and lawn clippings with their cables. Most reels are a huge hassle to clean. These buckets are great for cleaning. Just pull off the cable, pop the top off the bucket, spread out the pieces, hose them off, wipe down the cable and re-assemble. If you move very slowly, it might take a full 10 minutes to thoroughly clean a reel and cable.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great idea for LONG and LIGHT extension cords ..., August 6, 2006

The Quick Winder RAP-200 is a great idea. However, I tried to use it with a Coleman Heavy Duty Extension Cord. The Quick Winder could handle the bulk of the wire but it was almost impossible to wind up the full length of the heavy 100' wire.

I would recommend this for lighter weight extension cords.

5.0 out of 5 stars so fast and easy, July 26, 2009

This review is from: QuickWinder RAP-200 Reel for Air Hose, Fiber Optic Cable or Electric Cord (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've used the smaller RAP-100 extensively with heavy-duty 14-gauge Coleman (blue) low temp cords to power an electric snowthrower in winter, electric weed trimmer, electric leaf mulcher etc. for three years now. Quick Winder RAP-100 by Reel-A-Pail Inc. The cable rolls up easily in no time, no hassles. At least among homeowners, who uses cables any heavier than 14-gauge? I've never noticed any 10-gauge power cables at Lowe's or Home Depot.

A stiffer/cheaper cable might not be as flexible, and might require a larger diameter reel ... however a larger diameter reel which would also mean more wasted space in the larger center and take up more room to store. So unless you're using something stiffer than the heavy-duty 14-gauge blue Coleman low-temp cords, this is ideal. Gives it a small "footprint" in your basement/garage.

You can stand on the black base to hold it while you reel the cord in, and it has holes so you could easily bolt it to a piece of wood etc if you want a larger base or a base with more weight for more stability.

Obviously, if a cable is over 1/2 thick the length that will fit on the reel will be less - see specifications on their website:

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have if you have long power cords, September 22, 2010

This review is from: QuickWinder RAP-200 Reel for Air Hose, Fiber Optic Cable or Electric Cord (Tools & Home Improvement)
My husband and I had built our own home and I really wish I had found this sooner because we own a ton of construction power cords. No more killing my arms wrapping up electrical cords and no more twisted cords. I used it for two heavy duty cords of at least 100 feet and had no problem rolling it up. What is very helpful is that you can have the pronged end coming out of the top of the container so that you can plug it into the wall without unrolling it all. You only use what you need and there is a small space at the top of the container so if you need a few extra feet to reach the plug, the extra will store at the top with no problems. It is super easy to spin - almost no effort. I highly recommend this product!

I have many electric yard tools. I have a very big yard. I need as much as 300 ft. of power cords to do some of my jobs. I like electric because they are much lighter than gas powered and are less trouble and I'm not so young any more. This winder unrolls 300 ft. of power cord in about 3 minutes and takes about 5 minutes (max) to roll it all back up. You have to guide the cord up and down through the opening, but no problem. This winder is the best.

I still have about 15' of cord extending from the bucket and got a nice workout winding up what eventually fit inside. Since I tossed the packaging I decided to just wrap the remaining cord on the outside of the bucket rather than hassle with the return. The cord is for a standby generator and will not be used often. I purchased two of these units. I hope the other will accomodate the 100' of standard electrical cord I have. Go to the company website and take a look before ordering. Be very specific about the size of the cord you have if soliciting their advice. I apparently did not offer enough detail and will try and work with what I have. Unit is mostly plastic and should be sturdy enough for smaller electrical cords. I would definitely not recommend this for anything larger than your standard electrical cord.

I have 300 feet of 3/8 inch anchor line on mine. Much easier than line laying all over the boat deck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best extension cord organizer solution, December 11, 2007
This review is from: QuickWinder RAP-200 Reel for Air Hose, Fiber Optic Cable or Electric Cord (Tools & Home Improvement)
This product is worth every cent. A little pricier than some extension cord organizers, but unsurpassed in value. This is a great product, built to last, and well designed.

works well overall but the base is not right, needs to be improved so you can stabilize while winding up cords or a rigid handle would improve
