5.0 out of 5 stars Great new version of QuickBooks!
We bought this to upgrade our existing QuickBooks Pro 2005, and we couldn't be happier! Upgrading was a snap, and conversion of the data files went smoothly. All users say it is very similar to QB Pro 2005, so there was not a huge learning curve. 2008 includes a file server for the computer containing the actual data files, and we have noticed improved speed from the...

1.0 out of 5 stars Amazon is the place to buy but be careful about getting hooked in to Quickbooks
We started with Quickbooks when the prices and upgrade policies were fair. Now, they do these periodic upgrades with minimally useful features. Frequently they get rid of useful features in the upgrade. They force you to upgrade by cutting off support for payroll services for previous versions. Their payroll services cost a chunk of money. This review is from: Quickbooks Pro 2008 3 User [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
They also decided that my 5 user license was not upgradable--only get 3 users now. On top of all that, the upgrade license costs as much if not more than just buying a new version. Customer service is horrid. We used them to process payroll and they were a day late in delivering payroll to our employees--talked to them. They didn't view it as a major problem--my employees and the law sure does. The credit card service makes frequent mistakes on bank fees--again not a major problem..just correct it yourself. Isn't the point of accounting software to give me accurate accounts. I do hope they get a competitor soon...c'mon Microsoft or Google...here's an arrogant company that needs to get its comeuppance.

1.0 out of 5 stars You must let Intuit monitor your business. You have to update monthly., February 26, 2008

Intuit has new rules for all its customers. You have to register, you must update all info monthly, you allow them to monitor your software, you just lost all the money you paid because you are not allowed to sell to anyone else, ever. I lost money and lots of time with the folks in Pakistan. All my hard work is gone from the computer unable to get to it because I did not update. I have to buy another computer to run my software now. You will never be allowed to talk to anyone in the USA. Just Pakistan.

2.0 out of 5 stars An "Update" With Little New - But More Fees, May 10, 2008
This review is from: Quickbooks Pro 2008 3 User [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
This is a product that is really ripe for a competitor to destroy with better features and integration with online banking. It is especially irksome to have to manually download on-line banking data or else pay Intuit for the privilege of "one-click" downloads. Same situation for better email integration; or for payroll features. The feature list shows "sync with Outlook contacts" but you actually have to pay for an optional package to do that as well.

Another pet peeve is the seemingly incessant "Learn About Services" advertisements from Intuit and their partners. I paid for accounting software, not for continuous pop-ups and on-going "reminders" to purchase more software and services.

I use QuickBooks daily and it's OK, but Intuit's price and add-on policies I hate. I hope someone soon offers a better accounting package for my business. Google, are you listening?

All in all, very much worth the price!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy, Lousy Service, March 18, 2008

This review is from: Quickbooks Pro 2008 3 User [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
Amazon was the place to buy Quickbooks 2008. Their price beat QB central by $130.
Technical service by Quickbooks with a problem which was discovered after the upgrade has been terrible. Even after hours on the phone with overseas support they could not help. Lack of quick and qualified service has cost our organization hours of man hours.

4.0 out of 5 stars same product - more money, January 22, 2008

We have a 35 person firm with one main accountant and two bookkeepers. This package was nice because it included three licenses so they could all work in the program at the same time on the same file in multi-user mode.

As with all the versions for the last several years, the changes made were minor.

1.0 out of 5 stars Be prepared to troubleshoot errors, April 21, 2008
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Quickbooks Pro 2008 3 User [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
The lack of proper Quality Assurance is evident in QB 08. In addition to the .net framework errors you may receive and have to work around when installing and configureing QB, there is now the joy of having to call customer service overseas to "register" your product. My users have recently had an error were Quickbooks won't properly load files from a network file share. In addition to these problems, be prepared to have to load the database agent on your file server if you have users access the QB files via a share drive.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Ready for Prime Time, May 10, 2008
This review is from: Quickbooks Pro 2008 3 User [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
Too many glitches in this software. It shuts itself down often and wants to send error reports. Too many windows, too much information on one screen. Loads slow and works slow. Overall very clumsy to use.

We selected this version for our hospitality business to replace a 2004 single user version so that more than one person could access the database for input or report writing at the same time. So far it is working to our complete satisfaction.

Upgraded from QuickBooks 2006. Very easy. Went from single user to 3 user and that was easy. Only had one minor issue. QB2008 came preset to use MicroSoft Outlook. I couldn't find anything of setting to use QB email. Placed a call to QB and someone called back within 5 minutes. walked me thru how to select QB email. Excellent service and an excellent product.
