4.0 out of 5 stars Beats Money 2001 Deluxe, hands down
I switched to Quicken 2001 Home and Business after wrestling with MS Money 2001 Deluxe for a week (the first MS software I've really disliked, excluding Win95/98). Quicken is working great for me. I find the navigation much more intuitive than Money. I do think that Money had a better budget planner, but I wouldn't give up the ease of Quicken just for that.

I have been using Quicken products for around 5 years I am get more and more disappointed with the later versions. This product seems to have a lot of bugs:

1, I could not successfully import some business records from another version of quicken 2, If another window partially covers quicken then you cannot get to quicken by clicking on it (you have to minimise the other window) - STRANGE 3, It has a lot of annoying adverts which I find offensive considering the fact that I paid $ for this product. 4, There is horrendous support for this product. The booklet tells you that you will be billed $ per minute for support calls)

I have spent the last 4 hours trying to get my records updated.

If you are a new user then things may work out fine (the user interface is generally good). If you are using home, business and a lot of investing then this product still leaves a lot to be desired. I was trying to work out how to set up a client but that does not seem to be mentioned.

I used the product for years, than made the mistake of upgrading to a newer version. I guess in their desire to rush something new to the market it had bugs in it. The customer support is the worst I have ever experienced bar none. There is absolutly no one to call unless you want to pay per minute charge or chat on the internet. After two hours of holding on the chat service I got dumped by a busy server. The telephone people will not discuss anything without a credit card number. They should sell a service policy if they don't want to offer customer service. What a gross experience.

1. The manual is a shill for spending more money on web services you don't need. It is among the most vague things I've ever tried to use.

2. There are obvious glitches in the file management tools. This frightens me -- this is my livelihood, after all, and not some game. The IRS will not let me blame Quicken if I make a major mistake.

3. Very disappointing, grinding experience on the learning curve. Extremely un-inutive, Intuit.

I have used quicen deluxe and Quick books products since 95 and have loved them. I made the horible mistake of upgrading to Home and Business. After a week I have not had any success integrating my online bank accounts or brokerage accounts. Intuit has cluttered the interface with pay for services that you do not need. This software seems to be driven from the marketing department and not the engineering department. I am dissatisfied.

1.0 out of 5 stars I threw it away and reinstalled my old version from 1994, September 17, 2001
This review is from: Quicken 2001 Home and Business (CD-ROM)
The title basically says it. I experienced major hiccups in this program, some that I couldn't fix (like trying to reconcile my statements but finding automatic enteries like my paycheck showed up in my register but not in the reconcile deposits list...that one can't be solved...) I didn't want to integrate everything.. i just wanted to keep accurate track of a few accounts. I REALLY dislike the ads that solicit me at the bottom of the screeen...."No I don't want to find out how to save more money on my mortgage by clicking there... I'll turn on my tv if i want commercials... and you want to charge me 70$ for the viewing rights?" save yourself the hassle and stress and stick with your old program... at least you know already how to handle it when it goes haywire. I even got a manual with the old 1994 program. Something I learned I'd have to purchase seperately for this new quicken 2001. I bought this to get me away from my computer. Having been a personal computer user since 1982 I am not impressed that this is what we've progressed to 20 years later. If however you love spending hours monkeying with poorly designed computer software you'll love this!

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice program, but..., June 17, 2001

This is a wonderful program which performs MOST everything I require...BUT, there are (as is usual) occasional bugs or problems (like all software) and Customer Service at Intuit is probably one of the least responsive I have ever seen. Usually this isn't a problem (as I said, it's a very good program), but even a small bug in your accounting program can have severe consequences, and without a decent Customer Service Dept. you can end up with a financial disaster unless you pay close attention.

2.0 out of 5 stars buggy, July 7, 2001

Lost my data a few times with this one. Since I know my way around a hard drive, I've been able to recover. Wouldn't buy this one but what choices do you have....MS Money. Same ballgame.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quicken does it again!, July 12, 2000

I started out with Quickbooks Pro and I am constantly amazed at Intuit, I just keep moving up with their software, doing things that with any other program I never would have understood. This program is very user friendly and easy to work with. I am buying another for one of my employees who worked with it at our office and couldn't believe how simple it was. Neither one of us had any accounting experience but because Quickbooks is designed in easy to understand profiles everyone can us it.

As I said Quicken has done it again.
