Quicken is easy if you have the magic mirror to walk through into this world. This "2012 The Official Guide" is the magic mirror that leads into comprehension of this software world. I'm not a trained math person, and the idea of setting up any sort of business/accounting system that would work is akin to believing I can fly if I just flap my arms fast enough. This author uses logic and clear language (leaving the math and software nerd elsewhere) so that the process of using Quicken is accessible by even me (not sure about cave women). In the past, I've hacked my way through Software programs because the books were not hackable; in this case, the book is faster!

I took a shot on this book and am really glad I did. Last year I had purchased a book by a different author on Quicken 2011 and found it to be dry and unapproachable. The author of this book has made my experience with software books a thousand times better.

This book is easy to follow and does a good job of dealing with dry material in a very pleasant manner. Would definitely recommend this book to anyone.

Each year Quicken updates its' personal finance software. The same is true for the official guide. I buy the guide each year, because it's a very handy reference for dealing with questions I experience when using my Quicken software. There's just enough changes and new additions in Quicken to make a purchase of a new guide each year worthwhile. I recommend keeping a copy of the current guide on your bookshelf. And, you should buy the guide at Amazon, because they greatly discount the price.

This book goes into the gory details for each bit of Quicken, but not really how to use Quicken, not how to quickly create accounts that data can be imported to. It lacks any quick reference how-to instructions. Creating accounts is a trial and error endeavor. The book doesn't present the simple steps to accomplish creating savings/spending accounts so that data is correctly imported. It forces a user to create automatically updated accounts but not one account was populated correctly. I have had to delete all accounts and recreate them, some 3 times.

Creating investment accounts is an even more complex and frustrating waste of time. It cannot group fund transaction under each fund. You get a mish-mash of all the transactions in one list, not under the related fund. This book is not recommended for self training and I'm not sure it would be useful in an instructor led formal training class. Hopefully I can return the book.

This book,"Quicken 2012 The Official Guide", has proven to be extrememly helpful in keeping track of our financial responsibilities. We bought it and also bought "Quicken 2012 Quick Steps", a simpler guide that works well with the more detailed, larger volume. Between these two all of our questions have been answered.

This author is obviously a teacher, and a good one. Clear and concise, understandable even to the sub-neophyte, as am I. This book is an excellent road map that provides a clear path to a destination... in my case, setting up a small business accounting system. The Quicken 2012 Official Guide is inexpensive education... not an easy thing to find these days.

I've used Quicken for many years now and like most people when I do the same thing over and over have no problem remembing what to do but when that "little" change or something needs to be added I always go back to the book for review and step by step help. Sandberg is brillant in her ability to give step by step directions to help with those not often used steps in Quicken. Well worth the money!

I have been a Micrsoft Money user for a lot of years. I switched this year because Money is no longer supported. I have been impressed with the way it's working so far. I especially like the reports. I keep track of my personal finances and also a small non profit. I would recomend this software. Took a while to get used to the interface, [used to the way Money worked] but well worth the time. This guide was super in helping me get around in the program.
