2.0 out of 5 stars Same crap as the last two versions... October 14, 2011
Platform for Display:PC Download|Verified Purchase
Quicken 2012 is a buggy disappointment.

Each year Intuit changes the look a little bit, adds one trivial feature, breaks a few things, then ships it like it's a "new product". And each year like a sheep I buy it, thinking "this time it'll be worth it". About half the time, I ask for my money back.

I am trying 2012 after using 2010 for the last two years. Honestly, I would try something else... but sadly there *is* nothing else.

The look is a little nicer than 2010, and everything else is very much the same... except for these bugs, which I saw in the first 15 minutes of use:

Bugs:
1) When you are entering a transaction as a transfer, it shows *all* your accounts... even closed accounts or accounts that you have marked as "hide". This is clearly a huge bug and a huge hassle. Nice quality control.
2) When you look at a budget item in a montly view, then click on a budget item... it shows an unsorted list of items from many months past. So, unlike the 2010 version, you can't actually tell which are the transactions that are being included in your budget. This is, again, a really dumb bug to having in your released software.
3) When I download transactions, then say "done"... it goes into automatic reconcile mode... then says "do you want to close the reconcile window w/o saving your work?" Like it's trying to close the window it just popped up. WTF?
4) When creating a new budget, the budget analyzer was running... then quicken put itself in the background. It was weird... some other window just popped up in front of quicken.
5) The first time I did a "one step update" the update window just sat there... it looked complete, but there was no "okay" button or "done" or anything. Nice.

3.0 out of 5 stars So So, probably don't need to upgrade October 4, 2011
Platform for Display:PC
So Amazon started selling the digital download on Oct 1, the physical item starts shipping Oct 4 and the product still isn't called out on the manufacture's website. Select a product from their product list and it still takes you to the 2011 version. Can't be that big of an improvement if the company isn't even promoting it on their website. Makes you wonder.

Here is how my first hour went. After purchase I had the software downloaded and installed with-in 20-30 minutes. Prompted by the first step of the welcome screen I began setting up my accounts. At first I wasn't sure what was happening because it would saying it's connecting and getting data. Then the screen would disappear and start all over. I Finally figure out that it has to access each checking, savings, or credit card account individually even though it's all under the same user account. So what appeared as being stuck in a loop / bug was really just poor programming design.

The process picked up my checking, savings, and credit card account just fine but had an asterisk next to my mortgage account... read the fine print to find out that quicken is not compatible with my banks mortgage accounts and I have to set it up manually. Chase is not a small bank by any means, so I'm very surprised that this feature is unavailable.

I finally wanted to check and see if they listed whats new in this version. so I went to help and clicked on "Getting Started". I was kinda surprised to have it link me to the 2011 Getting Started Webpage; OOPS!

Finally went into the help document to find this weak list of new features:
* NEW! Large Fonts - Your finances are easier than ever to see and understand with large font support.
* NEW!

1.0 out of 5 stars Total Disaster. Avoid. October 11, 2011
Platform for Display:PC
I'm a compulsive upgrader so I pulled the trigger on this. Wish I hadn't. I spent a lot of time setting up monthly budgets (i.e. where I could easily track household monthly spending). When you click on the prgress bar in the "new" budgets, it gives you not the amount you have spent that month, but the last 3 months instead. Totally useless.

Also - not all of my stocks automatically update anymore - i have to click on the security and hit "upate." Not helpful

Finally, a weird bug - each day it gives me a weird message saying "Looks like your system clock has changed (yeah - the previous day ended and the new one began)"Would you like to restart Quicken?"

This used to be the best finance software - no longer. Maybe they are spending all of their time and money on the online version? In any event, stay with the version you have, save the money.

I should have paid attention to the number of bad reviews for this software. I attributed them to users who had problems unique to their situations and that the software itself couldn't be that bad. Boy was I wrong.

I finally decided to move to Quicken after using MS Money for over a decade. I have been very satisfied with MS Money and have continued to use the sunset edition for the last couple years. Yes, it's a hassle to manually import .OFX files from each bank, but after trying Quicken, the hassle is well worth it.

Complaint 1: I had to purchase the latest edition. Every other major software company on the planet (ok exaggerating) offers downloadable trial software. Intuit does not. So to even try this software, I had to pay for it.

Complaint 2: It does not work as advertised. Intuit advertises cash flow forecasts (account balance forecast) and even shows screenshots of them, but in reality, they do nothing for the user. The forecasts show ONLY scheduled bills and do not take any planned budget spending into account. This makes them totally worthless. My spending account balance will not be $3000 at the end of the month. The $2900+ worth of budgeted transactions will reduce that, but does the balance forecast show that? No. The forecasts may be useful for savings accounts, or other non-liquid accounts, but are worthless for day-to-day, liquid accounts. Yes, you can set up budgets, and yes, you can set up scheduled bills, but nowhere in the software can you see the two together. To borrow from another online review I read...It's like having lumber in one hand, and a hammer and nails in the other hand and having no way to put the two together to actually build anything.

5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfaction with Quicken 2012
Quicken 2012 had features that I used constantly (Loans & Loan details).

These features were dropped on Quicken 2014.

I am now happy as a pig in slop.
