Don't upgrade to this product.,
By
This review is from: Quicken Home & Business 2007 [OLDER VERSION] (CD-ROM)
I purchased and installed the new version of Quicken Home & Business. The first thing I noticed was that some software design genius decided that it would be a good idea to put black text on a dark background in the account bar. Also when the balance amounts are checked to not show in the total they a light grey color and become almost invisible. I searched everywhere for a place to change the color and after contacting Intuit I found out that you can't change it.
I have use Quicken for over 10 years and have always liked the product but this time I'm sending it back and reinstalling the 2006 version so I can read the screen. If you're thinking about upgrading to the 2007 version don't! Keep what you have. The upgrade isn't that different than the 2006 product.

Sloooooooooooooooooooooooooow!,

Been using Quicken for years, and this is by far the worst version ever. On my 2GHz PC I can see the screen redrawing because of all the fancy stuff they are trying to do with the interface - stuff that BTW adds little value to the overall application. It's a total dog!
I'd stick with the 2006 version if I had the opportunity to go back. Unfortunately now that I've upgraded I believe I'm stuck.

Unreliable and buggy,

I have used Quicken since the mid-90s, and each release adds more new cool features while simultaneously becoming more unstable and Quicken 2007 H&B is no exception. Some of the new stuff is really nice like background downloading of transactions and automatic naming of backup files. But this new version (r2) doesn't download transactions successfully anymore - they're downloaded but invisible in the register. And my payroll splits are also now invisible and uneditable. How Intuit can release a program that has such huge bugs is beyond me, but the last thing one needs is financial software that loses your data! And Intuit's customer support is worthless. If you're using anything else then don't switch to Quicken. And if you're using Quicken then don't upgrade. Should Intuit resolve this mess then I'll post an update here, but I'm not holding my breath.

Advertising,

Quicken software continues to contain prominent advertising for Intuit products and services. In my opinion, it is fine to offer additional services to customers, but give the customer the opportunity to say "no thanks" and then leave them alone so they can be productive with the software. Forever pestering a paid customer with advertising for the same products and services is not a good idea. Advertising takes up space in the user interface and is a distraction that reduces productivity.

So how long before the patches are released to address bugs?,
This review is from: Quicken Home & Business 2007 [OLDER VERSION] (CD-ROM)
OK, so I bought 2006 back in July, because I'd previously been at 2003, and needed to upgrade so that I could take advantage of the online banking and account download, which was going obsolete with 2003 (Grrr.)
But then I found out that 2007 was going to be released in just a couple of weeks. I contacted quicken and they told me they would send me 2007 for free since I just purchased 2006. So I figured I'd just wait and use '07. Installed '07, and things generally seemed to go OK. For the first few weeks. But then I started having problems with downloading from some accounts. At this point, I'm baffled at why I can't get some of my automatic web update working on accounts that it used to. I have one account that each time I go into, it tells me that "my bank requires me to change the password the first time I do a web connect". So I type in the old password, and then a new one... and it fails to do a web connect. So then I do it again. Says it wants me to change the password again. Then I see a new "Checking2" account that shows up. Where did that come from? There's nothing in it. At this point, I'm "into" 2007... So I'm probably not going to uninstall and go back to 2006, but at the same time, I'm "afraid" to even go into 2007 to do things with my accounts for fear that it's going to corrupt my file and leave me stranded. I've been loyal ever since I used Quicken on my 16MHz Macintosh LC back in 1990. The product rocked back then and was so easy to use, and it was good on the PC when I switched over a few years later... I think even Quicken 98 was decent, but started heading in the wrong direction. Then with Quicken 2003, I started being disappointed with how they changed the interaction. What happened to the MDI style interface? I liked being able to have more than one account register up at a time. Now with 2007, they don't introduce any more important features... just bugs. There is a big difference between products that are created by enthusiastic visionaries, and those that are produced by the bloated corporations that follow, who end up hiring large teams of people who don't have much in common with the original founder(s). So which nimble, intelligent visionary is going to give us the next great money management product that will take over where Quicken and MS Money should have gone?

24/7 Tech Support via Chat,
This review is from: Quicken Home & Business 2007 [OLDER VERSION] (CD-ROM)
I've only had this software for a few months and already know half of the tech support population of Bangalore, India. One problem with this software is that it has an auto update function that results in "Patch Engine Error," which I've solved through versions 2, 3 and 4. Another problem is with Quicken's servers, resulting in CC-501, CC-502 and CC-899 errors. Translation: Quicken's servers are unable to reliably update your bank account information. Today, in the time it took Pandeep to respond to one of my online chat questions, I was able to migrate a dozen accounts to MSN's free online version of Money, which updated all of my bank accounts easily. Conclusion: Save your receipt for their 60-day refund.

Don't buy!,
This review is from: Quicken Home & Business 2007 [OLDER VERSION] (CD-ROM)
We wish we could give this junk a zero star...
We bought this today and wasted 4 hours getting the stupid thing finally installed after dozens of errors and downloads--and it crashed our computer and jammed it up no less than six times on top of that. When it was finally up and running and our computer was working with it after having to tweak the heck out of our system to make run (turn of virus protection, firewall, etc.), we discovered that Quicken 2007 wouldn't import our data from any version of Microsoft Money! The help screen directed us to download yet another file that will covert only part of the data (no loans, no catagories, no investments, etc.), which meant we would still have to manually enter the rest by hand. However, the link to download this crucial file warns that it won't download to a newer version than Quicken 2006, but that doesn't matter anyway because the link is dead! Money can export files to QIF account at a time, but Quicken no longer imports that either, so that option doesn't help. We finally logged into the help center at Intuit and waited for another half-hour to be sent to a chatroom in India just to go around and around and around with someone who knows even less about basic computing than your grandma and isn't anywhere near as polite. Their final solution was to interrupt us, give us a link that just took us right back to the beginning for the third time, and drop us suddenly into a page that expected us to input our credit card data and pay for any further tech support. Before we could say anything further, he disconnected the chatroom behind the window! This is so going back tomorrow and we will never buy another Quicken or Intuit product ever again.

Quicken 2006/2007,

This review is from: Quicken Home & Business 2007 [OLDER VERSION] (CD-ROM)
Well I have to say Quicken 2000 was working fine for me. Got 2006 Premier Home & Business for whatever I thought it would add for me. Practically nothing. The nice one-click reports section I had on the left side in 2000 is gone. Now I have to make multiple clicks to get the same thing (oh, you can put a up to 3 on the top bar but that's it - only 3 !!!). I've been using quicken since before version 3 in the late 80's or early 90's and now I believe their programmers are just cranking out whatever they think is an improvement even though it's not. I'm still testing 2006 after 3 months since I'm not about to quit 2000 without a thorough understanding of what 2006 gives me and takes away. Too bad, the 2007 interface looks a bit better than 2006 but with all the troubles I read about I think I'll wait 'till 2008 to see if they fix the bugs/problems they put in 2006/2007. Too bad, I was a quicken junkie until I saw 2006.

Great product for the home & small business user.,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Quicken Home & Business 2007 [OLDER VERSION] (CD-ROM)
I have been using Quicken since 1998 (Quicken 98 Deluxe), and finally thought that it was time to upgrade... I am so very glad that I did! I use Quicken for both my home and small business finances, and I'd be absolutely lost without it. It easily keeps track of all of my accounts - bank, credit, loans, and investment - and provides me with an easy way to keep everything organized. I especially love that it automatically downloads the transactions from the banks that hold my accounts - no more manual transaction entries! For the beginning user, it is easy to setup and easy to learn... you'll love it! I think that Quicken is absolutely invaluable and highly recommend it to anyone who wishes to better organize their finances!

Runs well.,

I have been using Quicken since 2000 for my family accounting and my LLC biz accounting also. I updated my Quicken from ver2004 to ver2007. Costco had a much better price than Amazon for this software. The update process went smoothly. The ver2007 has a lot more reporting capabilities than the ver2004. The on-line update seems to be either on-the-par or a little slower than the ver2004. I tried the MS money deluxe back in mid -2006, but I just don't like the interface design from MS Money. So far, 2 months after the updating, I haven't run into any problem. Overall, I am happy with the ver2007 Quicken.
