The EasyStep interview process in TurboTax takes the bite out of the filling out a 1040 tax return. With video advice from the experts, you can make sure you get what deductions are coming to you. For those who file with Schedule C, this version of TurboTax can't be beat. It offers an excellent series of tutorials on itemizing business expenses, plus a video tutorial on the new relaxed IRS home office rules for 1999 (sure to be welcome change for small-business filers). For example, when we created a return for a small consulting business using a home office, the product advised us on depreciating equipment and on deducting other home expenses such as rent and utilities.
Several online books also add value to this package. Besides IRS rules, this tool bundles several titles such as J. K. Lasser's Tax Deductions for Your Small Business and Frederick Daily's Tax Savvy for Small Business. Fully indexed and searchable, you can easily find what you need for resolving your tax questions with these electronic titles. Like the standard Intuit tax products, this product supports reviews for correctness and potential audit problems. When you're finished, you can file electronically, of course.
Though you'll still need to keep track of expenses year round--this package can import from Quicken--advanced support for Schedule C filers is a welcome relief for anyone who runs a small business.
