Commercial radio is missing out!.,
This review is from: Quicksand (Audio CD)
Randy Kohrs is the most talented vocalist and musician in Nashville today. More importantly, he is producing real country music. Unfortunatley, you will not hear him on commercial country radio because Nashville music executives have their noses in the air looking for the next country pop artist. Kohrs is real talent that will knock the socks off any pretty boy Nashville hat act, and his records are filled with songs that actually have melody and meaning. If you are wondering what happened to real country music, look no further. It lives in every note of a Randy Kohrs song.

Randy Kohrs does it again,

Randy Kohrs released his new CD Quicksand the first of February. This CD is a mix of good music from country to bluegrass to blues. It would probably be called Americana. It covers all well. The musicians on this CD are some of the best in Nashville. The playing is off the chart good. The production on this CD is top flight. Randy's vocals and resonator playing are superior. He gets better every CD if that is possible. No wonder he is always in demand for session work. Buy this CD, you will not be sorry, and watch for another CD from Randy this year. This one will be older country songs which he loves.

+1/2 - Bluegrass basics salted with country, soul and gospel,

This review is from: Quicksand (Audio CD)
Randy Kohrs is a multi-instrumentalist who's backed some of country music's brightest luminaries, including Patty Loveless, Hal Ketchum, Dolly Parton and Jim Lauderdale. He's also crafted a solo career that's brought together his talent as a picker with vocals that are quite compelling. His music is solid on bluegrass fundamentals, but his resonator guitar adds a unique voice to the acoustic arrangements, and his singing ranges from traditional baritone/tenor harmonies to country twang and gospel. Highlights on his latest solo outing include country songs from Webb Pierce ("It's Been So Long") and Del Reeves ("This Must Be the Bottom"), up-tempo picking on the original "Time and Time Again," and the blue gospel "Down Around Clarksdale" and "If You Think it's Hot Here." The terrific backing vocals of Scat Springs heard on this latter track can also be found on a cover of Tom T. Hall's "More About John Henry." Kohrs' acoustic country tunes may be too contemporary for bluegrass purists, but with the traditional form well-covered by so many outfits, there's something to be said for adding new ideas to the original framework. 3-1/2 stars, if allowed fractional ratings. Tea Party Music,
By Cain Knobel "nerd" (Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Quicksand (MP3 Download)
Lyrics are pro-Jesus, anti-government, populism and in the case of Truman's Vision a of bit revisionist history. I call some it Tea Party Music, although songs like "Time and Time Again" are typical country fair of cheating. Extremely well done country/bluegrass but those who don't agree the basic point of view of some of the lyrics on the CD you'll find yourself tossing it the "to be sold" pile of CDs. But if you like the lyrics, country and bluegrass I can see how this could be a favorite since it's a very professional package.
