4.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic album from a great band, January 31, 2004
This review is from: Quickspace (Audio CD)
It is lazy to compare quickspace to stereolab. It's also incorrect. I really like a lot of Stereolab's material, but by and large, they are imitators (Neu, anyone?), whereas Quickspace actually bring their own idiosyncracies and originality to this album, and a lot of their other material. This is probably their most consistent album. Particular highlights for me include quasi-pfaff, song for someone and (on the US version only) the original single version of friend. If you like this stuff, hunt down the Superplus EP, as it's still their most determined and original piece. For me, one of the few bands around able to take the so called 'Krautrock' sound and twist it into a new shape.
I recommend any other Quickspace album, as they are all great.
Also, check out 'Th' Faith Healers', Tom Cullihan's earlier band. If you like this, you'll find a lot to like there, also. Most of their albums are available here and there, as their Too Pure releases were more popular in the US than Quickspace, to date (or so it seems to me).

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites, January 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Quickspace (Audio CD)
I have loved this album since it came out in 1997. In a world of endless independent releases, it isn't too often that one experiences a sense of timelessness in this realm without regard to fad or fashion. The album is raw and unkempt and poppy without being meaningless. The reason I love this album so much is that the music is so expressive without sounding contrived. Songs like Winona, Song for Someone, and Friend tap into a primal nerve that makes you want to scream along in order to release some built up frustration that you didn't even know you had. Tracks like Rise and Quasi-Pfaff are quirky, spacey an bouncey (think Pram) while other tracks like Swisher and both Dociles are melodic and soothing (like Windsor for the Derby maybe?). Anyway, I don't want to make too many comparisons, I just think this is a fantastic album. It ranks up there with Neutral Milk Hotel for me, and that is saying a lot.

super sounding low-fi extravaganza - old stereolab at its best.
