5.0 out of 5 stars intelligent indie...at last!, April 13, 2009
By
This review is from: Quiet Mouth Loud Hands (Audio CD)
i just recently saw damiera play in philly and i'm convinced i can't get enough of what i consider to be 'the best kept secret' of the indie music scene. equal vision records...why aren't you promoting this band??? they're excellent!

i understand they recently underwent member changes but upon hearing and seeing how well they played together live, i would have never guessed it unless told. during their performance, they played with high voltage energy while executing some of the most intricate playing i've heard in a long time. they're all very intelligent players and dave, the lead singer, is like their music...magnetic. it's hard to take your eyes and ears off of them.

'quiet mouth' is a brilliant cd. there are so many surprises around every corner that you never get tired of listening to it. there's even a 'what??' moment when out of nowhere you think one of michael jackson's songs accidentally made it onto the cd. check it out.

the production is full and imaginative and the writing smart yet still accessible to virgin indie ears. beware of the possiblity of ear worms with 'quiet mouth loud hands'. track one, the title track, has been in my head for days. you should be as lucky.

Damiera is one of the best kept secrets that I have come across recently. Their previous album m(us)ic is a collection of fast-paced start and stop math-indie-rock. Quiet Mouth Loud hands comes across as an elaborate blend of musical styles revealing a wide-spectrum of musical influences. This CD has elements of indie, math-rock, dance, electronic, and more wrapped together in a sound that is familiar, but original.

Apparently there has been a complete restructure in the member line up since m(us)ic was released (many members left, new ones joined). So in Quiet Mouth Loud Hands, the music is considerably different, but retains a similar sound. This album seems to 'breathe' and flow better than previous albums, with more focus on song and sound rather than riff and time.

Production quality on this album is pretty solid. The music could be described as more 'mature' than m(us)ic, but still has elements that will make an appreciating musician smile.

Songs for a new or casual listener to check out:
Teacher, Preacher
Chromatica
Quiet Mouth Loud Hands

For the musician I would recommend buying both m(us)ic and Quiet Mouth Loud Hands together as they both have a lot to offer.

5.0 out of 5 stars simply perfect... again., July 31, 2008
This review is from: Quiet Mouth Loud Hands (Audio CD)
I dont understand how these guys have managed to stay under the radar even after a second brilliant album!

I bought their first album, M(U)SIC, after it came out but i have no idea how i stumbled across it. It was most like an explosion of raw talent but, unlike other start-up bands, they had direction; a signature sound. The complex, bending and twisting guitar riffs, start and stop drumming, and shouting vocals pop, bounce and slide together for an upbeat and transient quality unlike anything else.

I had to be skeptical about their next one, however. I hoped that their slight internal troubles had worked themselves out and they could come back to the table full force. And they certainly have. But something is different and, dare I say, even better...

Theres a new twist on there old sound in this new album. First off, many of the songs are heavier and occasionally slower which contrasts the non-stop, high-pitched combustion of M(U)SIC and offers a new side of thier talent for a more diverse track list. Secondly, there is much more programming and sound clarity. At least someone at equal vision recognized a good thing and gave damiera a bigger budget this time around!

All in all I couldn't have imagined a better follow up to M(U)SIC but for those of you considering this album (which I hope more people do) I have to suggest buying both this one and the previous to truely enjoy and become a fan of Damiera and jump on this impending band-wagon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mind blowing..., July 27, 2008

Possibly one of the most unrecognized talents to hit the indie market, and it's a damn shame. Dameria is a glorified musical porno, fused by fearless time signature changes and complimenting riffs to form one hell of an audiorgasm.

Dameria is all that you wish your band could be. A must listen on all levels.

Good songs to help you break into them:
Quiet Mouth, Loud Hands
Blinding Sir Bluest
Nailbiter

The rest will follow suit.

And then, if you haven't already, invest in their debut LP "M(us)ic". Equally as mind blowing.
