If you like soothing, relaxing guitar with great voice and lyrics, you'll love this cd as well as Quiet Room II. Saw Dan perform this live and was thrilled with the songs. If you liked his early songs and music, this cd is the best.

In a not so quiet room....,

You hear the sound of an acoustic guitar strumming the songs that fills your memory, with long ago things, places and people. This CD is a trip to the past, it conjures up feelings and memories that have been long forgotten. It's a mellow CD, it really relaxed me and took me on a trip to the past. "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" is my pick cut, it is a acoustic remake of Dan Seal's, former life as the other half of England Dan and John Ford Coley.

This is the perfect "she left me but I'm glad we had the time together" type CD. Its all acoustic style lets you really appreciate the music and the amazing guitar playing, and Dan's voice is that of the perfect crying coyboy. It is a perfect CD to listen to when relaxing, reading, or moping.

The reference in country music (for a Frenchman) !,
This review is from: In a Quiet Room (Audio Cassette)
I am French and in France, country music is not so popular as in the US.
And it is true that for most of us, this kind of music sounds more like our own traditional folkloric music, which means simple heavy repetitive songs scarcely inspired. During my professional travels in the US, I had the opportunities to listen to various singers, not bad, like Garth Brooks or Tim McGraw. On Amazon.com, I have also the possibility to listen to the presently most famous singers (male and female) but without being convinced. Music is generally stereotyped and finally boring. For Dan Seals, it is another story. I discovered him on a French radio in 1981 and was immediately a fan. I bought all his CD's (in fact, I have more than one thousand discs which range from polyphonic masses of middle age to Alison Krauss and Van Morrison, with a great majority of classical music). Of course, all these Dan Seal's records are not at the same level. A few songs are not unforgettable, particularly in the last albums (inspiration is hard to renew). The interest of "In a quiet room" is that songs included in this CD are Dan Seal's songs which were released in electric version in previous albums, and selected to be acoustically recorded. This disc features great musicians, like Jerry Douglas on Dobro, and wonderful backing vocals with Alison Krauss and Dan Tyminski (Tyminski and Douglas belongs to the Union Station band which plays with A.K.). Melodies are elegant, harmonies beautiful and the acoustic sound exceptional (even if the dobro needs some electricity). As to the lyrics, their quality is high. For example "Everything that glitters is not gold" or "They rage on" are evocative short stories. "Love is the answer" and "The healing kind" are poetic jewels just as "Wood" in "In the Quiet Room II", which is also excellent and absolutely recommendable. To sum up, this music is for me the essence of country music, unplugged music (except the dobro !) that you can play or listen to seated around a campfire in a sweet starry night, and which enchants you.

Dan Seals At His Best!!!,

This review is from: In a Quiet Room (Audio CD)
Before "Bop" and "Meet Me in Montana", he was a favorite in the 70's folk rock scene.
This CD is at his best: his mellow voice and minimal acoustic instrumental. Honest and unadorned songs..Far and away the best rendition of "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight".
