Best-written edge-of-seat novel of 2001,
By James Bausch (Sarasota, FL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Quiet Time (Mass Market Paperback)
Where has Stephanie Kane been all of my reading life? In Quiet Time, her second book, she establishes herself without question as a master of the psychological thriller. It's replete with believable characters (normal people, killers, lawyers, cops are all drawn with a fine touch, like those Persian artists who use a one-hair brush to bring every nunance to the surface), a plot that will draw you in from the prologue and keep you riveted to the final page, and superb writing talent. I have purchased five copies for family and friends so far, and all of them thank me and enthusiastically recommend the book to others. Read it, and you'll thank me -- and Stephanie Kane -- too.

Didn't want to put it down,
By A Customer
This review is from: Quiet Time (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is very exciting. I didn't want to put it down and kept picking it up to read at any chance I had. Although you may think that you know where it is heading starts off, the author doesn't follow convention. The result is a very interesting and exciting book.

Defining Quiet Time,
By Jenny Noble "JN" (Denver) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Quiet Time (Mass Market Paperback)
I tend to prefer mysteries over suspence novels but this one intriqued me. It had enough mystery to kept me engaged -- how would the killer by unmasked? What was "quiet time?" What secrets lurked beneath the family's silence? The behaviors of the main characters made sense as the motives were uncovered; and as a psychotherapist with almost two decades of experience, I was delighted by that. As a mystery buff I was pleased that the author's logic matched mine--I got each critical clue just a page or two before it was revealed--a sign of a good story. Definitely worth the time and money to read.

Well Worth the Time,

This review is from: Quiet Time (Mass Market Paperback)
Quiet Time is a real page turner. Kane has written a fascinating tale with strong texture and sympathetic and involving characters. I stayed up until I finished it, quickly becoming unable to put it down. I emphatically recommend Quiet Time as one of the rare mass market novels with depth and interesting characters who are developed well enough to fully involve the reader. The book is a murder mystery on its face, but much more than that. Reading this one was a truly satisfying experience.

A Compelling Story,
By Stephen Kirk (Kansas City, MO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Quiet Time (Mass Market Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I read Blind Spot and liked Quiet time even more. Stephanie Kane is the type of writer who knows as much about human nature as she seems to know about the law. Blind Spot is original and compelling. You should read it.

Could Be You,
By A Customer
This review is from: Quiet Time (Mass Market Paperback)
Starting with a brutal murder in the prologue, Quiet Time has an edgy feel that keeps you slightly off center until the exciting conclusion. The creepy mystery has dark characters who keep a lifetime of secrets from one another. Stephanie Kane tells a most interesting tale that could happen anywhere to anyone whose family doesn't talk. Quiet Time challenges your mind and tugs your emotions at the same time.

Grisly murder grips you from the start!,
By Attorney/Lobbyist Reviewer (Denver, CO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Quiet Time (Mass Market Paperback)
Stephanie Kane has done it again with Quiet Time. The reader easily relates to the characters, scenes, and plot in vivid detail. The reader feels like he or she is actually witnessing events as they unfold. The story line is easily believable -- family dysfunction ruining three families in a vicious cycle. I am looking forward to more psychological thrillers from Stephanie Kane.

This book is well written and keeps you guessing - even if you tend to peek. The character development is extremely strong. Quiet Time will cause you to look at your neighbors with renewed interest. As a retired professor, I found the casual approach to romantic liasons by youthful students to be right on target as well. The campus cops should read the book as well as the students.
