5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Marriages of Any Age
My husband and I were married six months ago and we received "Quiet Times" as a wedding gift. There is no other wedding gift that we received that we use more!!! This book has helped us create a beautiful Christian foundation for our marriage. I would highly recommend this book for newlyweds! While some of the readings are geared toward couples that...

These devotions were not what I was looking for. They are very short and do not stimulate much thought or conversation. If you are trying to take a deep look at your relationship through devotions, this is not the book I would recommend. I have read many others which have questions and thoughts for discussion. This book provides one page for each day of the year and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Marriages of Any Age, August 12, 1999
My husband and I were married six months ago and we received "Quiet Times" as a wedding gift. There is no other wedding gift that we received that we use more!!! This book has helped us create a beautiful Christian foundation for our marriage. I would highly recommend this book for newlyweds! While some of the readings are geared toward couples that have been married for many years, I know that "Quiet Times" would be perfect for marriages of any age! I truly feel that this book could strengthen even the strongest marriages, help repair the weakest, and be a great learning and communication tool for newlyweds. We try to read our "Quiet Times" for-the-day every night before we go to sleep. We have had so many wonderful discussions after the readings that we might not have had, had it not been for this book. Besides discovering so much more about eachother, we are developing such a strong prayer life too with the help of this book! If your marriage is lacking in the prayer department, "Quiet Times" can help (if you let it). H. Norman Wright's insight and eloquence are brilliant and poignant. He speaks to us every time. He opens each reading with a bible verse and then proceeds to relate it to married life or possible problematic issues that may be in a marriage. He may end a reading with a discussion topic, or a prayer request for the couple, but for just one page a day he does a masterful job of bringing God into our life. In such a hectic world, where life seems to just fly by, "Quiet Times" brings us down to earth and helps us focus on eachother and our needs just a little more. If you think that your marriage or the marriage of a friend needs "Quiet Times For Couples" then PLEASE BUY IT RIGHT AWAY!! If you don't think that your marriage needs "Quiet Times" then BUY IT ANYWAY! I promise you will be pleasantly surprised!

These devotions were not what I was looking for. They are very short and do not stimulate much thought or conversation. If you are trying to take a deep look at your relationship through devotions, this is not the book I would recommend. I have read many others which have questions and thoughts for discussion. This book provides one page for each day of the year and no thoughts/questions to discuss. It takes less than five minutes to read each devotion. If you only have a few minutes this book would be fine, but if you are looking for something with more substance to add to your relationship, this isn't the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS INSPIRED BOOK CHANGED OUR MARRIAGE AND OUR LIVES, December 4, 1998
I'VE READ A LOT OF SELF HELP BOOKS IN THE PAST BUT THIS ONE HITS AT THE HEART AND SOUL OF MY EVERYDAY LIFE LIKE NOTHING ELSE HAS. MY HUSBAND AND I EXPERIENCED A SPIRITUAL CHANGE WHICH IN TURN RESULTED IN A STRENGTHENING OF OUR MARRIAGE AND FAMILY. I TELL EVERYONE ABOUT THIS BOOK AND THE PROFOUND IMPACT IT HAS HAD ON MY LIFE. I ALSO CALLED THE PUBLISHERS TO SEE IF IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE TO PUBLISH THESE DAILY DEVOTIONALS IN A LOCAL PAPER FROM TIME TO TIME JUST TO GIVE EVERYONE A BRIEF PREVIEW SO THEY WOULD BUY THE BOOK. I TELL YOU, I WANT EVERY COUPLE TO HAVE A COPY. I'VE BOUGHT SEVERAL AND GIVEN THEM TO COUPLES IN CONFLICT, I'VE TALKED ABOUT IT AT CORPORATE MEETINGS, ON PLANES, AT CHURCH, AT ROTARY AND EVERYWHERE. THANKS H. NORMAN WRIGHT AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Devotional, February 4, 2005

I would say this ia an average devotional. Not that great but not that bad. I would recommend "Nightlight for Couples" by Dr. James Dobson instead. I think there is more discussion between husband and wife with that one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great time together!, July 21, 2011
This is a great book to bring Bible-based married couples together. We found that everyday the scripture applied to our lives and gave us an opportunity to get to know each other even deeper. We have only been married six-months, but we wanted to start our journey together off right. In relationship with God and in relationship with each other through an intimate devotion. It starts off our day!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not useful, September 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this book along with 2 other books. I do not like this book at all, because I did not find the devotions useful in any way. The devotions are extremely basic, because there is nothing regarding a devotion for couples to learn about their relationship through Christ. There is a verse taken out of the Bible, and then a short explanation of the verse. There was no section in the book that encouraged my husband and I to apply our christian beliefs to our everyday life or to our marriage. This book was recommended to me by my mother, and that is why I bought it. I showed my mother my favorite book out of the three which is "Devotions for Couples" by Patrick Morley, and now she plans on buying that devotional instead of the one they are currently using. I just believe there are much more productive and influential books for couples to grow together in their Christian lives than this book. I feel like this book was a waste of my money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners but not exceptional in any way, July 31, 2010

Although I'm not a big fan of devotional books that only focus on verse of Scripture at a time, they do have their place in the devotional lives of many Christians. There are many devotional books for just about every situation, and "Quiet Times for Couples" is not an exception.

"Quiet Times for Couples" can be used profitably by Christian husbands and wives who want to establish a daily devotional time together. The book contains a devotional based on one Bible verse for each day of the year. H. Norman Wright, the author, suggests spending 5-10 minutes reading and meditating on each devotional. Since the devotionals are short enough, this will make it less daunting for couples wanting to do the devotionals together. I think some of the devotionals would be useful for Christian couples, especially those young in the faith. The devotionals themselves are good, but not great.

One lack in the book is that the approach of dealing with only 1 verse at a time makes it less likely that the Christian couple will go more deeply into what God's Word has to say about marriage.

Another reason I found this book less than completely satisfactory is that only some of the daily devotionals deal specifically with issues regarding marriages. Although Christian couples need to hear about more than marriage, there could have been more verses of Scripture that dealt with relationships and especially marriage.

In spite of these criticisms, anything that brings Christian couples together to talk about God's Word together is a good thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quiet Times For couples, January 30, 2010

Great book! I bought it as an anniversary gift and we read together every morning before work. It is a wonderful way to reflect on our relationship, our marriage and our walk through life together, as believers and followers of Jesus Christ.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long-Distance, September 2, 2007
Because of his work, my husband and I have several nights of the week that he stays there. We found that reading the passages for the day give us a kind of communion - even if we don't talk to each other about it. The readings are relevant and real. Quite refreshing.
