About the Author

John Selby has spent his professional life studying meditation. Growing up in California, he met, and became the student and friend of, Krishnamurti. He also studied with a number of other great living teachers and then turned to an academic exploration of the psychological foundations of spirituality at Princeton and UC Berkeley as well as carrying out mind research for various bodies including the National Institute of Mental Health. He did fieldwork on shamanistic practices with the Hopi Indians and tribes in highland Guatemala, also maintaining his therapy and training centres in California and Europe. He is the author of over two dozen highly successful books, including Seven Masters, One Path; Kundalini Awakening in Everyday Life; Conscious Healing and Immune System Activation. He lives in Kilauea, Hawaii. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

More About the Author

My current work teaching Silicon Valley folk new methods for using their minds more creatively seems a fanciful leap from my country origins. I was born into the fourth generation of cattle ranchers in California and Arizona, so I guess that makes me one of the few remaining Americans who actually did the work of a cowboy while growing up - it was not so glamorous actually. I was eager to head back east to Princeton - and from then on it was non-stop change ... government-funded EEG mind/psychedelic research in the late sixties ... meditation and mind-brain exploration and research plus working as a therapist in the seventies ... several year-long journeys south into Indian realms where I felt most at home.

In the eighties, I moved my base of operations to Europe, working as a therapist and educator and writer - and found people seriously eager to plunge into the deeper mind-management methods I'd been developing. Also - after a number of fulfilling and enlightening but not-quite-right relationships, I finally found the love of my life in Switzerland ... and then off we went to Hawaii to start a family (most fulfilling of all) and go deeper into mind-brain explorations, culminating in the late '80s with the creation of the BrightMind Network and the very beginnings of what is now called The WizeWell Process.

Our boys grew up and went to college in California, and after almost 20 years in paradise, Birgitta and I moved 2 years ago to Santa Cruz and are now working over the hill in Silicon Valley - where finally the times are right for my 'cognitive shifting' and innovation-activation training to be well received. During the last decade I've been finalizing my life work developing short-form awareness-expansion techniques and Focus Phrase methods for quickly quieting the mind and shifting into present-moment engagement and enjoyment.

Quite a number of related books have emerged along the way - and now Birgitta and I are fully engrossed in launching a new mind-tech company called WizeWell. Most of the 2 dozen John Selby books you'll find on sale at Amazon have led up to these new cognitive tools -

Quiet Your Mind by psychologist, writer, producer, therapist and educator John Selbly is a thoroughly "reader friendly" guide to dealing successfully with chronic worry, emotional adjutation, and live a calmer, happier, day-by-day life. Guidelines for meditation and tranquility help teach the reader how to be alone without succumbing to loneliness, learning not to be dominated by judgmental thoughts, achieving greater passion with one's intimate partner by not getting lost in distracting fears and obsessions, and much more. A positive, uplifting mental and emotional self-help guide.

Even though this book doesn't appear to offer any ground-breaking insights, it's written by a very experienced professional with very useful practical skills and a deep human touch to combat anxiety and other emotional and life issues. It's helped me tremendously personally, and I'd recommend it to anyone, virtually anyone including those who do not suffer from anxiety because there's so much wise and useful information in it. All in all, an excellent book!

This book needs to be handed out left and right to people... It has so much potential for helping people struggling with anxiety and chronic worry. I will say I didn't buy this book off of Amazon.com, but I did get it at a local BN.

People who worry about just about anything could really use this... it is a godsend if you have a lot on your plate and are struggling with getting through life.
