A boy thinks of all the sounds he has heard that day--bacon sizzling, sirens screaming, kitten purring--and wonders why he can't hear a flower, a ladybug, or a butterfly.

Timeless Classic,
By Helena Edwards (Richmond, Virginia United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Quiet as a butterfly, (Their An I wonder why reader) (Hardcover)
My mother read this story to me when I was a little girl and it remains one of my favorites. As an early childhood educator, I use it to teach my students about the five senses. It is wonderfully interactive as the children "help" me read by making the sounds that the boy hears during the day. It also works well as a book to read to children before they go to bed as it conludes....quietly. It's a bit dated in it's illustrations and such, but the children love it which is proof that a good children's book is always timeless.
