Quik Hitz 300 series is by far the best karaoke for new pop music!,
By Dan Dan the Taxi Man (Tempe, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Quik Hitz Karaoke QH-306 POP Hits 2009 CDG (Audio CD)
The Quik Hitz 300 series is by far the best karaoke for new pop music, and has been for well over a year now. Every disc in the series is of great quality, and QH-306 is no exception. Not only are the musical arrangements nearly flawless replications of today's most popular music, but the lyrics look good and are very easy to follow on the screen when played on a CD+G karaoke machine or player. It's also worth noting that there is no annoying copy protection used on this disc like some discs by Sound Choice and Chartbuster, so transfer to a computer based system or CAVS machine is very easy and works great. The disc is very cheaply manufactured in small runs, though, so expect a CDR with poor quality printing on the disc in a plain paper sleeve. Don't let the appearance of the disc itself fool you, though, the quality of the instrumentals and graphics and the accuracy of the lyrics and the timing of the lyrics are top-notch! There's also a lot to be said for a karaoke disc series that consistently delivers 9 songs of all killer - no filler - hits every time.
Of particular note on this disc is Lady GaGa "Poker Face", Beyonce "Halo", and The Ting-Tings "That's Not My Name". These three songs are all big crowd-pleasers, and the Quik Hitz versions are BY FAR the best karaoke versions I've ever heard. (and I do a lot of karaoke) Parents and people who operate karaoke in all-ages venues with children present do need to take note: THE LYRICS ARE COMPLETELY UNEDITED! That's great for bars and adults, not so good for a child's party. "Turnin' Me On" has the album version's lyrics, complete with multiple F-words and explicit sexual lyrics, and "Dead And Gone" has vivid gang violence in it's lyrics and will give your screen many instances of "$h1t" and the N-word. (does it REALLY make a difference if that word ends with an 'r' or an 'a'?) At the bars I do karaoke at it's prefect, but I wouldn't buy this disc for my kids. Is this a positive or a negative? That, of course, depends on who, what, and where you're buying your karaoke discs for. There's also one definite negative about this CDG series, and QH-306 is no exception: The duets, QH-306 has 3 of them, are very hard to tell in time who sings what parts. The color difference on the screen between T.I. and Justin Timberlake's part on "Dead And Gone" is hardly noticeable (white and a very-light blue), while on "Lucky" and "Turnin' Me On", all lyrics on the screen are white and the different colors do not show on the screen until they are highlighted and should be sang when it's kind of too late. While this is a minor annoyance, the quality of these versions are nonetheless superb as long as both singers know who sings what, and better than many other karaoke disc brands (Pop Hits Monthly, Sing It Now, StarDisc, etc.) that have nothing in the color of the text to differentiate between who sings what on duet and multiple-singer songs at all. I do highly recommend this disc and all of the Quik Hitz series for karaoke hosts that have a young adult crowd (18-29) where explicit lyrics are not a problem, and also to singers who like new pop and hip-hop who sing at venues where the KJ isn't good at keeping up with today's hottest new music. There are no better individual discs out right now that compare to these.
