Hunk of JUNK!,

I accidentally dropped this stand (without a mic in it) from 3 feet off the ground to the padded, carpeted floor and it snapped like a twig. Even before that, the adjustments that you use to lock the mic in place had stripped. They must make this thing out of the cheapest, most fragile metal there is. Spend a couple more bucks and get something better, you'll be sorry if you waste your money on this one.

This is perfect if you want a little, convenient, easy to carry mic stand always available for use. Everyone knows that holding a mic while its recording is a no-no, so if you must have it hand-held while recording, something like this is perfect. The legs fold in to form a sort of handle for easy hand held recording. Also, you can open it up and plop it down on any desk, table, or even the ground if you want to. The only downfall of this is that the mic clip that comes with it is very generic. Though, if you're using a mic worthy of a stand then chances are it came with a custom fitting mic clip of its own.

This stand is perfect for desktop work. It has a heavy base which prevents it from getting bumped around easily. I would suggest getting a higher quality mic holder, as the one it comes with is enough but flimsy.

You can't beat the classic round, weighted desk stand,

For handheld dynamic mics, this may be alright. For condensors with the connector at the bottom, this stand is no good. For example, I tried to mount a Blue Bluebird on it and the mic just falls over. Even worse, the mic would lean on the XLR connector (which will eventually lead to loose cable ends). If you need to set a mic on a table or desk, go with what the pros use: For around $20, get the kind with the heavy, round, black bottom, not tripod legs. Even better: for under $200 get a desk arm that you can pull towards you and adjust on the fly. Here is the style mic stand that I recommend and that's commonly used in radio for remote broadcasts: http://www.amazon.com/Stage-DS7200B-Adjustable-Microphone-Stand/dp/B0002M3OVI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293924850&sr=8-1

I like it, the mic clip works fine, and it holds the mic without trouble.

I was looking for an inexpensive, desktop microphone stand that was easy to set up and easy to store. This stand was perfect and well worth the cost. I've only used them once, so time will tell if they can hold up.

These are nice when you first get them. We used them exactly ONCE a year for the last few years and they stayed in a case between conferences. After the first year or so the legs got loose, and no amount of cranking down would tighten them. Then this year I pulled them out and all the legs were broken. The last good one got dropped from about 2 feet onto carpet and it snapped too. Basically the pot metal legs are crap and eventually they break. Stick with the big metal base stands if you can, these things are sometimes lighter than the mic and cable sitting in them and they have move around. Basically, they're cheap, so know what you're getting into.

Total garbage. The collar that is supposed to hold the rod up does nothing, and the mic stand itself needs to have an allen bolt tightened in order to hold the mic at an angle. Does it come with an allen wrench? No. I'm returning mine.

I gave it four stars because, as mic stands go it's cheap, but it gets the job done and is convenient and very portable. A pros and cons rating system would have been better for an item like this. The collapsible feature is great, though you'll need to have an Allen wrench handy to tighten the legs up so it sits level, it has a tendency to lean a little one way or the other, but that's no big deal.Fits standard microphones, decent quality materials, and it's durable. I'd recommend it for podcasters or anyone who does on-location audio interviews. It will pack up easy, take up little space and set up quick. |
