I bought this knife set to use in a vacation cabin where nobody does any serious cooking. The set replaced a hodgepodge of mismatched "yard sale knives" that were old, ugly, damaged, and largely useless, so it didn't take much for this item to be an improvement.

As I expected, these knives are obviously cheap, with molded plastic handles and light-weight blades. But they're perfectly functional and usable; they just aren't beautiful, finely-balanced examples of first-rate cutlery.

There's one oddity to the assortment of knives provided: With most knife sets you might expect a serrated bread knife to be included, but there's none here. Instead there's an unusual, narrow-bladed knife with a forked tip. This is presumably the "slicer" mentioned in the product description, the forked end being useful for picking up slices of meat, tomato, etc..

So nothing special, but the price is friendly.

It is not a luxurious item but at least have the basic things. Knifes are not that strong and they could have short life.

Terrible! If I could give it 0 stars, I would. The knife blades are at angles to the handle, making it very dangerous to use! I contacted the company directly because they warranty their product for materials and workmanship. I got a response immediately saying they would waive the processing fee to replace what was defective. I replied telling them what needed replaced, and never heard from them again! Don't waste your money!

Let's get the obvious out of the way... For $1.50 per piece, you're not really expecting high quality here, are you? These are knives. Knives you can cut things with. A variety of knives. That match. And have a convenient and attractive storage container.

This set has to be evaluated with the quality for the expense in mind, and I think it's a winner. I had several low-budget knives when I was in college and just out of college and paid more than $1.50 each for them, and still I made sure to pack them when I moved to the next place... until I had real income and could buy real knives.

So let's talk about the nature and extent of the low-budgetness. Reversing my usual approach, I'll start with the cons:
1. Very thin blades that easily bend
2. These are not full-tang blades, of course
3. There is a limited one-year warranty (go to quikut dot com), but you have to pay shipping and include $2.00 per knife to cover return shipping, so hey, that's not going to be worth it.

But there's some pros, too!
1. Dishwasher safe (I imagine they will last longer if you don't do that, though)
2. They arrive plenty sharp to cut things. And like the low-budget knives of my youth, you should be able to sharpen them again when they get dull.
3. I find the handles comfortable, as described ("ergonomic")
4. It's nice to have a knife block! This one resembles a 4x4. But so what? It's cheap! Oil it and it might end up looking nicer.
5. Color choices.
6. Made in USA ("of domestic and foreign components")

For those on a budget, I think this might be just what you're looking for.

The title says it all. You get what you pay for. These are not the greatest knives, but you probably guessed as much. These will get the job done. None of them have fallen apart yet, but I don't use them every single day. If you're going to be doing some serious cooking, I would just go ahead and invest in something a little nicer. If you just need a knife for those few occasions where you're actually slicing and dicing, then these will probably be sufficient.

We so much wanted to like this product. The price point is amazing--at $15 per set, the knives are far cheaper than Chefmate or Chicago, even on clearance at Target or Walmart. And they are assembled in the USA. So we really had high hopes.

Alas, other reviewers are absolutely correct. This set is dangerous to use. Please keep out of the way of children. The assembly may be done in the US, but the materials clearly come from abroad, most likely, in my opinion, from China. The level of quality is so low that I cannot believe an American manufacturer would agree to them. The plastic is not all that thick or solid. The blades are ridiculously thin and hardly align well with the handles.

They feel like they will come apart through hand washing, never mind the dishwasher.

I was afraid I was taking my life in my hands just using them. They are sharp, and they cut well. But the way in which they are made, and the materials they are made from, are just too poor. I would say that, unless you really need these, you are better off going to a yard sale and buying older knives that you can sharpen.

Sorry, folks. I try to have as much made in the US stuff as I can. But these do not fit the bill.

Quikut 10 Piece Cutlery Set is a very good set of knives for someone in need of an inexpensive set of knives or as a second set. The knives are stainless steel which means that they will retain the sharp edge for a long time. These knives are very sharp. In using them to cut up fruit and slicing away the orange rind from wedges, I found them excellent. I cut up a lot of fruit for smoothies every morning. My usual knife is a wooden handled steel blade knife which I sharpen at least once a week. If there is a problem with stainless steel, it is that the metal is so hard that it requires a special sharpener if they get dull.
The knives are thin which some might find to be less appealing, but the flex is good. While on an extended vacation, I found no knives in the kitchen, so I bought a set of three knives at Walmart for about the same price as the Quikut and found them unusable and left them in the rental. I also once spent over $30. on a paring knife that did not work as well as the Quikut.
I would have liked to see a serrated bread knife included in the set which would have possibly increased the review to 5 stars.
