Editorial Reviews

First time on CD for this 1970 classic. The biggest claim to fame for the band Quill was their appearance at the legendary Woodstock festival. They released only one album on Cotillion Records, a mixture of late '60s Psychedelia and the Boston sound from that era. It has been a coveted collector's item for decades and is almost impossible to find. Wounded Bird. 2010.

A glitch in the cameras at Woodstock kept Quill out of the movie (though you can hear Dan Cole's exhortation, "Let's get high!" mysteriously spliced into the background noise as Richie Havens takes the stage), depriving them of their shot at stardom. This has since been rectified with their appearance in the WOODSTOCK 40 YEARS ON box set and the WOODSTOCK DIARY DVD, but it was much too late for the band.

This is quirky, brainy 60s rock in the mold of Clear Light, Spirit, or Autosalvage--it might even grab fans of that bigger quirky band, The Doors. Sadly, by the time this album came out, that style of music was already fading in favor of the mellow, country-tinged singer-songwriter genre typified by James Taylor and CSN&Y. This is a dense, challenging LP that rewards repeated listenings.

Quill
(Self-titled - 1970)

This is the only album that "Quill" released (That band named "the quill" is not This band).

These are all studio recordings. They did perform "They Live The Life" at Woodstock but it is the Studio version which appears here.

This is not a classic, but it is a very nice CD. The songs are entertaining and a good representation of late 60's Rock.

It is a shame that their live Woodstock performances were not included in this CD. There is certainly room for it here. However, what IS here is very nice.

This is a 4 Star CD

This is a great early psych rock band. I think ive heard a total of three power chords and this record proves you don't need power chords to play great rock music. The songs on here are beautifully crafted and with care to. The lyrics are great, though a little hard to read but creatively well put. All great musicians, great drummer to, don't forget his work on They Live the Life. Vocals fit perfect, why do we cite Pink Floyd every day and not this band? It makes me sad when i find all these unknown great bands, why?
