3.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but cannot stand alone
This is a lovely book with some very nice patterns. (Other great books for cards are Anne Redman's and Diane Crane's.) HOWEVER, if you're going to use or give it as a gift, if not already familiar with quilling, make sure to also purchase something more basic, such as Malinda Johnson's treasure trove. This book is definitely not a standalone for beginners. By way of...

By way of example, most quillers agree that folded roses require lots of practice -- but this book is the first I've ever seen WITHOUT EVEN DIAGRAMS. The average person wouldn't have any chance of mastering folded roses by that brief description alone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bright color photos throughout encourage the would-be artist, May 27, 2006
This review is from: Quilling for Scrapbooks & Cards (Hardcover)
Quilling dates from Renaissance times and involves the art of rolling and shaping small strips of paper into delicate shapes. These then were used to make decorations for everything from furniture to sconces and boxes. Today they can also be embellishments for scrapbooks - and beginners receive instruction on how to put together winning results with a minimum of materials and experience. Bright color photos throughout encourage the would-be artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book CAN stand alone ..., May 16, 2006

I must congratulate Susan for authoring such a complete quilling book. This book is full of useful and practical designs for embellishing cards, tags, scrapbook pages, etc. Of the 40 plus projects, my favorites are the "sports themed" designs .. they are always hard to find.

This book CAN stand alone and is perfect for the novice or experienced paper quiller. As a fellow Society of Creative Designers member, I had the privilege of seeing Susan's original projects firsthand. Her work is unique and this book exemplifies her talent and beautiful quilling designs.

This is an amazing book. I made so many cards for Christmas with this book, and EVERYONE was thrilled to get the "special" cards I made just for them. The instructions are easy to understand and follow. I also decorated photo cards using this book. I will purchase this book for gifts for my friends. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

It's ok. It's more of a scrapbooking and card making book than a quilling book. The best part was the alphabet (upper and lower case)and numbers. Some of the designs are nice too. But not enough quilling for me. It's got lots of how to make cards and step by step scrapbook pages. Mostly I'm not going to be using more than half of the book. The scrapbook pages are so detailed that it's like you got to have the same picture just to make that same page. So, if your trying to JUST quill this book is not for you. But as for what quilling it does have they are nice. Designs that I haven't seen in other books, except a little too simple for some. But if you have kids, are religous, and can't come up with any idea's of your own for scrapbooking and cards this is probably a better book for you then it is for me.

This book came in excellent condition and in a timely manner. It does have some nice pictures. I would like smaller pages with these same pics, or th esame size pages with more ideas/page. All in all, it's pretty good. I was pleased at the nice condition of the book
