Book Description

October 2, 2012
This celebration of Project Linus presents over 20 quilting projects perfect for giving--and for inspiring quilters to do good in the world.

When a child is seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need, Project Linus comes to the rescue with a new, lovingly handmade blanket or afghan. With this precious gift, a volunteer quilter can bring a little warmth, security, comfort, and joy into that child's life. Quilt It with Love tells the story of this wonderful organization, sharing stories from both recipients and donors and showcasing fabulous projects--often made with easy-to-use fabric precuts--that even beginners can make. Designed largely for children and teens, these quilts feature fun extras, like pockets for storing stuffed animals or a pattern that doubles as a game board.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“Especially heartwarming are the letters included from recipients of these wonderful quilts and their families, as well as notes from those whose lives have been enriched by using their talents to brighten the spirits of children in crisis.” --Machine Quilting Unlimited

"The quilts they [Balagna and Babbitt] gathered together for the book include ones with interactive designs that double as game boards or have pockets for storing toys. Some are crazy quilted, paper pieced, or appliqued; others stitch up quickly with strip piecing or precuts. The authors have also included quilts that make perfect guild or group activities.” --Quilter Magazine

“Each quilt project has its own chapter. There is a gorgeous full color photograph of the quilting project featured along with a detailed list of supplies and directions for assembly. Also included are diagrams and photographs to explain the quilting process. Each project also has a guide to show how difficult the quilt is to make. I found this very helpful since I am still a beginner. I love reading the stories of the people who made the quilt and who it was gifted to. The quilts are really so much more than simple quilts. There are some that are game boards or have windows or pockets that open up. There are quilts with signature blocks sewn onto them that make them a wonderful keepsake.” --BlogCritics.org

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely quilts and service! October 25, 2012
Format:Paperback
Project Linus is a nonprofit which provides security and comfort to children in need by providing them with handmade blankets. In Quilt It with Love, it tells that they currently have 400 chapters and 60K volunteers who have donated quilts to over 4 million children (so far!). In the book, they take the opportunity to share some of the touching stories they have encountered since starting the compassionate project.

In Quilt It with Love there are over 20 beautiful quilts, with delightful designs that even beginners should be able to handle and the patterns are geared to easily be made with a quilting group. The quilts are focused on styles that children and teens would like. All of the quilts are just lovely, but I especially loved the Pocket Full of Posies style with the 9 patch blocks and applique hearts and flowers. A heartwarming story accompanies each of the quilts that tells about a child who received that particular quilt and what it meant to them.

It's really thoughtful how they include interactive elements to the comforting quilts, like pockets to tuck special toys into or game boards on the quilt squares that enable an ill child to play games while bedridden. If you are wondering how you can help (which I certainly was motivated to do after reading the touching stories), Quilt It with Love suggests that you "make a blanket and take it to your local chapter. They will make sure it gets into the arms of a child in need."

The book is well written and wonderfully illustrated. The quilt patterns are easy to follow, and step by step instructions are given for cutting and assembling the quilts. 5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiration & Project Linus History October 22, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Inspirational, heartwarming and informative. The patterns run the range from easy to a little challenging. The stories intermixed through out the book will warm your heart and make you want to donate a blanket or two. Great book to keep or give to a friend who would like to get involved with Project Linus or just a book to keep for your own library. Read the blanket delivery stories over and over when you need a little motivation!
