Book Description

May 1, 2000
A Quilter’s Life in Patchwork is a collaboration between Pam Bono and June Tailor and contains beautiful quilting projects themed around important events in our lives. Designs which you will find in the book, like “My First Home,” “My Heritage,” and “My Botanical Garden” appeal to purchasers year round. Pam Bono is both a book writer and quilt pattern designer. Her designs and color selections are quite popular amongst quilters and sewers.

What makes A Quilter’s Life in Patchwork unique is the fact that it is a combination book and interactive CD. In addition, it comes with two sheets of June Tailor Colorfast Printer Fabric™ (inkjet printable fabric.) This combination of products allows users to not only construct a quilt but also make coordinating items such as placemats, pillows, note cards, and quilt labels, to name only a few. The CD is the first of its kind and is both PC and Macintosh compatible.

The book itself contains beautiful photographs, colored patterns, fabric requirements, and easy to understand cutting and assembly instructions. The interactive CD provides interactive capabilities, instruction for the coordinating projects, video demonstrations, and templates for paper and fabric accessories. The following four features can best highlight the CD:

The Interactive Color Change Board allows a quilter to print out an alternative color scheme to what is shown in the book. If you do not like one of the four options shown, you can click on the quilt pattern, design your own color scheme, and print it out to use for your fabric selection.

S'Mores and Extras are creative projects that coordinate with the signature quilts found in the book. Some require sewing and several are “no-sew” projects, which are great for kids to try. S'Mores and Extras include projects such as table-runners, placemats, coasters, potholders, baby accessories, towel borders, bookmarks, etc.

The CD Video Demonstrations teach quilters sewing techniques used in the book as well as how to use many helpful notions found on the market today. The video clips can be viewed over and over, so it’s like having a personal classroom at your fingertips.

The CD also contains a feature for making matching quilt labels, stationery, gift tags, envelopes and note cards. All the quilt designs in the book have these corresponding accessories. The quilt labels, as well as the other items, can be printed on the Colorfast Printer Fabric™ Sheets located on the back cover of the book. This is a wonderful way to personalize your quilt.

All totaled, there are over 160 projects within the book and the CD. It’s uniqueness and appeal has made it not only a great resource for quilters, but also a wonderful tool for beginners, and a unique gift for those who sew and own computers.

This review is from: A Quilter's Life In Patchwork (Paperback)
I bought "A Quilter's Life" for the squirrel and nuts family tree wallhanging. Then I discovered the CD and all the extras it includes--quilting stationary, quilt labels, gift tags, tutorials on all the major techniques covered in the book and a fun program that lets you change quilt colors when planning your quilt. It's not a big program like Electric Quilt, but it's user friendly and a chance to try out a quilting software feature. There is even printer fabric included on the back cover, so you can print out some of these great designs immediately. There are clear color plates and diagrams all through this volume and the directions are truly multimedia. The designs are fresh and whimsical. My favorites are the nuts and squirrels, my first quilt(sewing notions theme), my first home, and I need someone to love (kittens in baskets.) There are bed quilts as well as many house projects included. I've had more fun browsing this book than any other quilt book I've seen this year. Pam Bono writes with a friendly voice that makes you feel like you are in her studio in Durango with her husband and bulldogs creating a quilting experience especially for you. I gave this book my Accidental Quilter's Book of the Year Award.
