This book was a an incredible help to me in choosing my new sewing machine. I found it in the midst of my shopping and was so glad that I did! The chapter on how to "test drive" machines was just what I needed and suggested testing things I'd never even thought of -- like winding a bobbin. I didn't have any trouble with that but did have trouble getting bobbins in and out of some machines -- a real deal breaker for me! It's a must-read before you go shopping. You'll be incredibly well prepared with questions and a test drive kit.

I bought this book 4 years ago when I was looking to replace a sewing machine. It was so much help that I've lent to others and they all agreed. It gives great tips on testing machines to see how they function doing applique and other tasks that you plan to do. It has a great check list to use to eliminate the machines that will not do what you need. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to buy a new sewing machine.
