Review

Quilting Dot to Dot, Patterns for Today's Machine Quilter, by Cheryl Barnes, has 160 full-size patterns in a variety of styles, with illustrations showing the repeat elements in the pattern. -Old Stuff, October/November 2006

About the Author

With a love of hand needlework of all types from early childhood, Cheryl Barnes discovered machine quilting and purchased a longarm machine in 1994. She began her own quilting business, Golden Threads, at that time. After quilting for several years, Cheryl felt limited by the lack of new patterns available to longarm quilters. The pursuit of building a library of quilting designs took Cheryls company from quilting to publishing quilting designs.

I found this book especially suited for beginner or intermediate quilters. Those who are just starting to use their home sewing machine for quilting will find this book to contain a wealth of information and ideas, with especially useful info on how to transfer quilt patterns. Many standard and unique quilting patterns. One of the few quilt books I find better to own than to check out at my public library.

Since owning a short-arm home quilting system, Dot to Dot is a quality way to use quilting designs effectively...and it's fun too! This book has been added to my "library" of quilting design books, as one can never have too many quilting patterns. If you remember dot-to-dot drawings as a kid, you'll find this just a little bit more of a challenge, but who doesn't like a good quilting challenge?

Excellent patterns, whether or not you use the dot system. I use a home machine, not a longarm, and this book is suitable for what I do. The patterns are also prettier than some of the books that purport to show you how to quilt without marking. (Many of those books seem to want you to over-quilt, in my opinion. Too much quilting makes your quilt stiff as cardboard.) This book is just right, so far as the spacing and amount of quilting done.

SUPERB!!!! Don't EVEN start machine quilting without getting this book. Also she has a FREE video online @ goldenthreads.com where she demonstrates the dot-to-dot method.

A very good book to help finish off yours quilts. I recommend this book.
I am really new to Quilting and having paid other people to finish off my quilts, it was really great to be able to complete them myself. Some really nice patterns to quilt. It made choosing them really hard. Great book.

I thought the book would have detailed directions how each design is made. Shows no arrows or directions. I wanted basic step by step and it was not that.

This is an easy to read and follow book for a beginner or intermediate quilter. The book has a lot of nice projects, that are easy to follow and incorporate into your own work. What is best though that you pick up the skill that is being taught in the book, and once you tried a few projects you will be able to do your own designs based on the skills learned from following dot-to-dot projects.

This book is well worth the money!
