The flowers and their foliage are in a circular design on a square block. There is a Biblical reference for each flower, historical information and interesting tidbits about many of the flowers. In addition to the embroidered details added to many of the designs, there are also a few flowers with three-dimensional elements. The general instructions include sections on preparing fabric, several methods of applique, hand and machine embroidery with drawings of seven embroidery stitches, and finishing techniques. There are also sections on the topography of the Holy Lands and the significance of colors in the Bible. Flowers featured include Aloe, Hyssop, Common Rue, Crown of Thorns, Black Mustard, Water Iris, Common Myrtle, Common Poppy, Crown Anemone, Narcissus, Turk's Cap Lily, Saffron Crocus, Pomegranate, Tulip, Caper Bush, Cockle, Mallow, Water Lily, Henbane, Vine of Sodom, Grapevine, Frankincense, Flax, Coriander, Cattails, Rock Rose, Balm, Mandrake and Lentil.

About the Author
Helga Curtis had an art gallery in New York City for many years and taught quilting in the evenings. Presently she lives in Brookville, Florida. She continues to teach quilting classes; her specialty is applique. Several of her students used her original designs to create the projects seen in this book.

Patterns are great and quite different. Explanations are interesting. The projects are done as individual blocks, which is nice. If you want to combine them into a larger project, you have that option as well. I recommend this book.
