5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational and practical
This book is a great resource for anyone who is making or has made the transition from traditional to freely expressed quilts. The author gives really clear instructions on how to form curves in both the quilt construction and the borders. The curves are all done with the topstitched method, using freezer paper, so there is no seam matching. Her own quilts are colourful...

3.0 out of 5 stars Books and their bindings
The book is just what I wanted, but the binding of the book was very disappointing. I had opened it only 5 times and the pages started to fall out. The binding, or lack of it was so bad, I now have a folder of loose pages.
Maybe I was unlucky with this book, but if I had purchased it across the counter, I would have been able to take it back. I have purchased this...

This book is a great resource for anyone who is making or has made the transition from traditional to freely expressed quilts. The author gives really clear instructions on how to form curves in both the quilt construction and the borders. The curves are all done with the topstitched method, using freezer paper, so there is no seam matching. Her own quilts are colourful and exuberant, and her passion comes through on every page. There are very clear instructions at each stage, and patterns for three small quilts to try out some of the ideas. It would not be suitable for complete beginners, but is not scarily difficult.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read and do..., May 21, 2010

A local group of quilters participated in a retreat where this book was used as the text. It offers a fantastic process to making contemporary quilts pain free. You don't need to know how to make a pattern or how to execute tedious machine (or hand) applique. This method is satisfying and easy to replicate because the book is thorough, concise and the photos are top notch. There many tips along the way which create many an "aha" moment. Open work, fabric manipulation and embellishments provide added inspration. Finishing techniques are fresh and can be used on any quilt. The binding on my book broke apart from usage but I took it to a local printer who was able to put a sprial binding on it which is perfect as it now lays flat for the next time I create a "Pignatelli style" quilt.

Maybe I was unlucky with this book, but if I had purchased it across the counter, I would have been able to take it back. I have purchased this from Australia, and it is a little difficult to return it to the States.
The book has been very well written with very clear instructions of a facinating technique to quilting.

This book is very good for the quilter who wants to try something beyond the usual patchwork and applique.

In this book, Vicki gives absolutely the best insigt and instructions for creating your own "one of a kind" piece of artwork. Her suggestions and TECHNIQUES have made the entire "creating" process a cinch. Love the book and I highly recommend it to both beginning and advanced art quilters.

This is an awesome book. Viki's ideas are wonderful and easy to follow. I recommend either of her books.
However, be aware that the glue on the binding that the publishers put on the copy that received is a problem. My copy fell apart immediately. The info is great, but it is difficult to keep the pages together.
