This is not your ordinary quilt pattern book. Most of my quilt books have an introduction to quilting, instructions, and patterns. Cynthia added a little extra by creating a book that explains the very heart of quilting and its connection to home, friends and family. Her book begins with a little family history and what life was like back in the 1930s. As a genealogist, I was particularly interested, but you don't have to study your own family tree to enjoy her stories.

Next in the book she has her favorite childhood cookie recipe and tips for making great cookies. Not only is this a nice addition to the book, but it also showcases a tea cozy and potholders made from patterns in the book. There are also other cookie recipes throughout the book, eleven in all.

Quiltmaking basics follow, including something that I don't see in a lot quilt books, a primer on layering and basting. There is a nice introduction to different methods of appliqué so that even a beginner could quickly learn to create something beautiful with these patterns. There are patterns for table runners, a tea cozy, potholders, an apron, and quilts of all sizes.

My favorite was Angel Kisses, small flower wall hangings with yo-yo tassels - cute, easy, and unique!

There is something for every skill level, depending on the method of appliqué chosen. There are larger flowers that would be easy enough for a beginner and also more intricate and delicate flower appliqués that would require a more experienced quilter.

What a book! It begins with a history on the author's great-grandparents and how life was with a family of 17 in the 1930's. I LOVED reading about it. The next thing I loved was the included recipes. Who doesn't like to find a new or different recipe! So not only is this a quilting book but it is a history book and a recipe book. Three for the price of one book --- a great deal.

Eight pages of quilting basics and four pages of applique how-to instructions give this book a great basis for the patterns that follow. I love the shape of the Tulip in Spring Fever and the odd shaped heart in From the Heart. It is refreshing to see different but yet recognizable shapes being used.

Each of the 11 patterns has applique on it but if you didn't want to do the applique, just find a piece of fabric that has a print that will replace the applique. Each quilt pattern has its own cookie recipe. If you choose to use the applique, each template is provided a full size.

The material and cuttings lists are easy to follow and the instructions contain enough graphics to make sure you are on the right path. A small blurb begins each pattern.

This is a great book for an applique lover.

Although it was advertised as "used", it was in perfect condition. This is a wonderful book for quilters who like aplique, and 30's fabric. I have already made one small quilt from it. seller was great, price was right.

A group of quilters have already made one of these quilts for a friend and it is the cutest quilt. Looks like rows of dancing tulips on a spring day. Very cute. All of the patterns in this book are adorable and pretty simple to make. I can see some of the quilts in many other fabrics besides 30's fabric. Very nice book.

What a great selection of colorful quilt patterns using those lovely thirties fabrics. Full size templates with clear instructions, easy to follow and something for all skill levels. There are full size quilts and cute smaller projects too. Full colour illustrations throughout and very tempting recipes which are very doable. Plenty of applique, floral embellishments and items for the kitchen. All patterns are bright and cheerful and can be adapted for use in many ways, not just in the kitchen.

I found this book to be better than expected. I think I will be making a lot of the projects in it. There are great projects with easy to follow instructions and good pictures.
They will be fun for people who enjoy the "past" great years in the 50's and other years too....I like the book.

I love this pattern book. Her instructions are clear, concise (at least on the one I'm attempting to make). The pictures are bright and the quilts are shown in full (instead of just draped over a chair). The vendor delivered the book in record time and the condition of the book is perfect.
