5.0 out of 5 stars Quilts! Quilts! Quilts! is a must have!
As a busy working mom, who likes to do weekend projects, I wanted how to learn how to quilt. I do not come from a quilting family, and though I am a average sewer, the only thing that I had ever successfully quilted (if you even call it quilting) was a very simple gingham crib quilt for our first child. I thought that quilting was simply going to the fabric store and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, not perfect -- novice quilter review
I am a novice sewer and quilter who bought this book on the recommendation of a highly experienced sewer who used the book to learn to quilt. I know several novice sewers who have successfully learned to quilt from this book. Techniques that save time and effort are scattered throughout, and I found most to be easily understood. However, I have found some of the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Quilts! Quilts! Quilts! is a must have!, February 2, 2000
By A Customer
As a busy working mom, who likes to do weekend projects, I wanted how to learn how to quilt. I do not come from a quilting family, and though I am a average sewer, the only thing that I had ever successfully quilted (if you even call it quilting) was a very simple gingham crib quilt for our first child. I thought that quilting was simply going to the fabric store and buying some cute fabric, going home and start cutting into pieces. No wonder why I have so much scrap fabric left. I would end up frustrated and have a complete mess!

I purchased Quilts, Quilts, Quilts, and couldn't put it down until I finished reading the whole book. It is meant to be used as not only a work book, but also as a resource book. It gives you tons on information on topics such as color choices, fabric choices, and patterns from easy to difficult. Plus much much more!

I would recommend this easy to use book as a great starting place, especially if you are like me and have a closet full of unfinished projects that were never finished, because you thought you knew what you were doing, but really didn't. Read the book and learn how to do it. I was totally amazed at what I could do just after reading the book and doing the recommended practice exercises!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classroom in a book, February 1, 1999
By A Customer
I have purchased other instructional quiliting books in the past, and this book certainly exceeds them all in quality and informative worth. Already an able seamstress, this book answered many questions I have had about the quiliting process, and tipped me off about procedures that I can carry over into my normal sewing. Overall, I feel well prepared to enter this new dimension of sewing and am happy to make my mark in such an age old art. Buy this book especially if you are a novice - it has everything you need, from templates, detailed instructions, practice exercises, color help, and whatmore, fosters a deeper appreciation of the needle and thread.

Of all my quilting books (and I have tons) this is the reference book I keep coming back to. No matter what you need, this book will give you answers and ideas. If I could only keep one of my quilting reference books it would without a doubt be this one !

5.0 out of 5 stars The reference bible for every quilter from novice to expert, April 1, 1999
With over 2 dozen quilt books in my library, if I could only keep one, this would be it. It clearly and concisely outlines everything you need to know from basic techniques to choosing fabrics. Also has a full range of patterns that covers the gamut with detailed instructions. A REAL winner and worth its weight in bold.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, not perfect -- novice quilter review, July 7, 2005

I am a novice sewer and quilter who bought this book on the recommendation of a highly experienced sewer who used the book to learn to quilt. I know several novice sewers who have successfully learned to quilt from this book. Techniques that save time and effort are scattered throughout, and I found most to be easily understood. However, I have found some of the directions on piecing to be difficult to follow even for fairly simple quilts. Though I am generally able to follow directions in most books I found that I was unable to comprehend some instructions even after reading them several times. People more adept at space relations might have fewer problems than I experienced.

On the plus side the book does a good job of addressing color and fabric pattern types, and how they effect the overall look of a quilt. After reading descriptions attached to photographs of fabrics, and the text discussions, I was much more attuned to nuance, and more confident, in selecting fabrics. Examples of differing color and pattern approaches to memory blocks, with photos of both the individual blocks and how those blocks looked when sewn together, were also very helpful.

Overall, the book is geared towards selecting patterns and fabrics and constructing the top of a quilt. There is very little information on actual quilting stitches or machine quilting. There is no discussion of rotary cutter technique though instructions are given on strip cutting both with rotary cutters and scissors.

I would buy the book again and believe it is a good value.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for New Quilters, June 7, 1998
By A Customer
Now in its 2nd revision, "Quilts! Quilts!! Quilts!!!" is still one of the best books for beginning quilters. The revised edition contains updated, brighter fabrics. Each technique can be learned as part of a sampler or used to make a complete quilt. Applique section could use some expansion to incorporate several methods to use freezer paper templates.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quilts, Quilts, Quilts, November 16, 2000
By A Customer
Initially very excited about this book, looked very interesting but on further reading discovered that some of the instructions for making the samplers weren't easy to follow, even with the help of a more experienced quilter, not really for a novice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great First Book, April 29, 2005

(REAL NAME)
This was my first quilting book and the sampler quilt I made while taking the begining quilt work shop is still my favorite quilt. Everything you need to know is in this book and easy to understand. The quilts they have the directions for are in many sizes which is very nice. If you only purchase one book this should be the one.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book for beginning quilters, September 6, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My daughter recommended this book and it's companion book "Quilts, Quilts and More Quilts."

I am always looking for quilt patterns, so I ordered both books.

They are great.

Would recommend any quilter have them in their library of quilting books.
