5.0 out of 5 stars This one's a keeper!
This book is worth every penny! The quilts are amazing and they are easy to make. There is a Log Cabin, a Tree-of-Life, Tumbling Blocks, a Pineapple, a Basket Weave, and a Star quilt. Thirteen in all. They look complicated but really aren't! The instructions are clear and simple. You can easily see how these quilts go together just by looking at the step-by-step pictures...

3.0 out of 5 stars Quilts, the selvage edge
Found little of interest per se in this booklet as far as their illustrated projects, however, it did offer a lot of inspiration and I would use the basic information to create something of my own. The impetus for ordering this book was the purchase of a very cute pincushion in the shape of a fat rooster utilizing only colorful selvages and it just seemed to jump out...

I bought this book a week ago and I finished my first selvage quilt already, a Log Cabin. It came out really well and inspired me to create my own design. What I really like about this book is that you can quickly learn enough to create your own designs. Also, I was glad to see the photo of a selvage quilt after machine washing and drying. It looked fine. So I'm hooked! This is so much fun.

The Foreword by Mark Lipinski (Quilter's Home magazine) is hilarious!

"Quilts from the Selvage Edge" is beautifully done and full of inspiration. Definitely one of my favorites, a 5-star quilting book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great design experience, May 16, 2008
This review is from: Quilts from the Selvage Edge (Paperback)
I have been in awe of Karen's multitude of talents for some time, so it wasn't any surprise to me to see her latest quilt idea. It is a winner for sure! Karen has gone way beyond the scope of normal imagination, and has come up with a wonderul way to use what until now, most people discarded. The book is beautifully illustrated, and the format makes it easy to follow. It is an experience in innovative fabric use. Give it a try, and join the new wave of using every bit of your fabric.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun stuff!, December 2, 2009

I didn't buy this book to find "any great inspirations or great originality" or new techniques, as others have said they were disappointed to not find in it. I bought this book to learn more about using selvages to make quilts. Karen Griska's book is the only quilt book that I have read and reread. My copy is well used. Ms. Griska shows how to use selvages in a fun and interesting way and I am hooked on saving and using selvages. Now, if I have to make a choice between two fabrics, I look for the one with the prettiest selvage. I have used this book over and over. If you're looking for something different and fun in quilting, Quilts from the Selvage Edge is the book for you!

I love this book! I find it a great resource, and enjoy the creativity that Karen Griska has sparked among those in the quilting community. I have made 2 selvage projects thus far, with a third in progress. One of the things I like best is that it serves as a snapshot of all the fabrics I have worked with over the years.

The pictures are wonderful, and the directions are clear and easy to follow. I promise you will not be disappointed with your purchase of The Selvage Edge.

Karen's book is a wonderful source of inspiration for making Selvage Quilts.
The forward by Mark Lipinski is hilarious and made me laugh out loud. The photography is excellent and the instructions are well written and complete. It is a great reference book for general quilt making as well.

I'm so glad that I own this book and recommend it to anyone who enjoys quilt making.

I first saw Karen's work in a quilt magazine and purchased my copy of her book as soon as it came out. I have read and reread the book and recommend it to anyone who wants to do something different from standard quilts. It feels good to use pieces of fabric that most people throw away.
I have made projects using the book and her methods and have become obsessed with selvages. I consider this book one the most important of my quilting library.

5.0 out of 5 stars What Fun!!!, December 2, 2009

I have owned this book for a while and have made several selvage quilts using Karen's instructions and patterns as inspiration. Her methods are clear and the photos show the endless possibilities for selvages that would otherwise end up in the landfill.

If you haven't joined the selvage movement, this book is a MUST buy for your library!

I have been inspired to collect selvages to make some of the projects in this book. I am also getting donations from fellow quilters. This is a great book and I have already made a purse using selvages. I hate to think of all the ones I've thrown away over the years. Karen Griska has truly turned trash into treasure!
