Book Description

October 23, 2007
Once again, Terry Clothier Thompson combines her passion for historical quilts with her talent for recreating those quilts with today's fabrics and time saving sewing methods. This time her inspiration comes from a collection of vintage c. 1900-1930 photographs from the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, in Springdale, Arkansas... wonderful images of people posing for the camera with their special quilt as a frame. From these photos, Terry has recreated six vintage quilts with reproduction fabric and modern sewing techniques for contemporary quilters. Five pieced and one appliqued, these quilts were family treasures, worthy of being preserved with a photograph. Come inside and see Quilts Through the Camera's Eye.

About the Author

Terry Clothier Thompson makes her home in Lawrence, Kansas and works in her new studio. There she teaches classes on dating quilts to small groups of women who want to know about the old fabric in quilts, their history and to educate quilt shop owners on how to be an informed seller of reproduction fabrics. Terry collects vintage quilts, clothing, quilt tops and blocks to teach her weekend FabriCamp classes during the late spring, summer and early fall.

Terry has written three books for The Kansas City Star, Four Block Quilts, Libertyville, and Quilts in Red and Green, co-authored with Nancy Hornback. Terry also designs reproduction fabrics for Moda. Her impressive collection of vintage fabric c. 1790-1950 inspires her to create authentic looking fabrics for historical based quilts.

Terry Thompson made an excellent connection between vintage photographs and quilts that you can create. Her examples are contemporary yet have that old timey feeling.
