This is a short and concise biography about John Quincy Adams. The author wrote a very sympathetic biography that mainly looks at Adams and what he did in very good light. Very little criticism to any of Adams actions or policies during his political times. Also no detail to any of the major events that Adams was involved in. Such as his election to the Presidency by the House of Representatives. More detail about that would have made the book better. But you have to remember this book was written in the late 19th century and finding facts about the details of a persons life wasn't easily found. Also the writing style was much differnet then too. This can make this book much harder to read and understand. All in all, though, this is a good, concise account of Mr. Adams life. For anyone wanting to know a little more about him this book will help obtain that knowledge.

It is too bad more time in history class isn't spent on JQA. This man was very influential and had an amazing life. I highly recommend this biography to anyone interested in American history. A wonderful read.

Though I enjoyed the book and found Mr. Adams to be a person to be admired, I thought the writer has a tendency to ramble on and on, telling of actions and/or traits, from different views, but ultimately saying the same thing repeatedly. The book could have been shortened without losing any important content. I do wish the author would have written more about the Amistad case and Mr. Adam's role therein as I feel that to have been one of his finest moments of our nation's history.

However, upon completing the book, I have a greater admiration of our 6th President for the honest integrity he displayed throughout his years of service to this country. He deserves our respect and admiration. I wish our current politicians could take lessons.

If your used to reading books written in the late 1800s this is a great read. John Quincy Adams was a great statesman and did as much for this country as any that preceded or followed him. The style and vocabulary is a little awkward for most modern readers, however the book is an very good read, especially for the price.
