An Underrated Album, November 4, 2000
This review is from: Quintet Plus (Audio CD)
If you like Cannonball you'll love this CD. It features the quintet that made the superb (and sadly unattainable) At the Lighthouse album. But the great thing about Plus is that the recording quality is absolutely superb so what you lose in live atmosphere you gain in excellent sound - Cannon's alto never sounded better. Every track is strong with some great melodic material and strong solos. I have about 12 of his albums and I rate this one of the best.

Great playing, great hard bop session, February 8, 2008
This review is from: Quintet Plus (Audio CD)
Cannonball is on his game, and with that great ensemble of players, you know it has to be rockin'. If you are into mainstream jazz, hard bop then this is a cd for you.

Fantastic, energized, December 7, 2002
This review is from: Quintet Plus (Audio CD)
From Cannonball's intro solo to Arriving Soon, to the fast funk they break into, to every other song on this album, it is a tight, top-flight album. The guest pianist on a couple tracks lets them bring in the vibes, which underscores the funky rhythms. Most of the tracks are written by their personnel, who had just come off tour when they recorded this, leading to brilliant changes. The two bonus tracks are both superb. The take 3 Lisa is as fine as the Take 8, and 'O.P' features a fantstic cello solo.
