The wink pivot power feels like a product that was rushed to market in hopes of beating the competition. I purchased the wink from another website for $30 delivered. The problems began as soon as I tried to use it.

First: There are no instructions included in the box, besides plug the wink pivot power into the wall. Easy enough.

Second: Download the app from the Google Play store. Install the app and log into home network. Done.

Third: The app will program the wink pivot power using the phone's screen to log into your home network. This was definitely NOT easy. You must hold the screen of your smartphone against a light sensor on the wink pivot power. Your phone screen will blink your network information into the light sensor and program the wink with your network credentials. I tried for almost an hour with a Samsung Galaxy S3 and a Note 3 with brightness maxed in a darkened room before the wink would detect and log into my home network for programming.

Fourth: Once the wink detects your network, you can program the two programmable power ports from the app. Again, there are no instructions, and programming is not necessarily intuitive. It took some trial and error before I successfully programmed the two ports.

Fifth: After verifying the programming of the ports multiple times, the wink is proving INCREDIBLY UNRELIABLE!!!! I have a lamp programmed to turn on at 7 PM and off at 11 PM. The lamp comes on and off at random times and rarely follows the programmed schedule. Neither port's programming adheres to their schedules.

Sixth: The two programmable ports CAN be controlled remotely from the app.

I simply wanted to be able to control two lamps in various parts of the house remotely. These seemed like a great choice. I hooked one up, downloaded the Wink app, set up the acct and everything worked perfectly for about a month. Then there was the software update (not sure if it was just the app or it also updated the device). It has only worked intermittently since. Has to regularly (weekly) be removed, cleared, and re-initialized. NO!!! An unreliable product "working" remotely is worse than just leaving the light on or off--at least I know the status of a fixed power strip.
Three contacts with customer support produced a set of instructions saying I needed to "reboot"--is this Windows?? This morning the first strip simply started flickering the lamp on and off randomly. After unsuccessful reboot, I tried the as-yet-unused second strip. It never would connect with the server (my server..their server..whose?). Frustrated and very disappointed in this product featured prominently on CNBC and backed by GE, I have consigned them to the trash and will continue to look for another alternative.

The device was easy to install and works with the iPhone App. Enough to impress your friends. Nevertheless, if there are any power glitches or Internet connection outages, the device loses synchronization with the App, meaning that the power is really OFF while the App shows it ON. It is understandable that if the power or Internet are OFF at the device, there will be no immediate action, but you will not know remotely, and you may expect that the command will be forwarded at the first opportunity, but it is not. Also, I left the device ON (using the App and manually), and found it OFF after a few hours (sometimes). The Quirky customer support is very friendly, but did not solve the issue, which in my opinion is a design oversight. Therefore I do not suggest this product if you need a reliable device (as I expected from a simple outlet).
I would gladly buy a future version where reliability is advertised under any circumstances.

Verified Purchase
I would love to be the first 5-star reviewer of this product. But I just can't. I bought the Pivot Power Genius because I wanted to be able to control a lamp in my living room via wifi. I thought about a getting a Wemo, but I also needed an extension cord to get the lamp plugged in behind my sofa. So, what did I find but something that claimed to be both a wifi control device and a multi-outlet power strip that gave me the 15 inches of cord that I needed. yay!

The device comes with fairly simple instructions. Download the app, create an account, plug in the strip, then follow the steps to communicate between the app and the device. But it never did work. I powered on/off the device, deleted and reloaded the app, and zip, nada. Doesn't work. "Unable to contact the server". It appears that lots of people on the Quirky Forum (which I wish I had read prior to ordering this) have either had trouble connecting or trouble making it work consistently. Quirky personnel encourage people to call in to the support line to get help. But why should consumers have to call in to an 800 number for help using a silly $60 product that turns on/off a light? They shouldn't be shipping this product with as many failures as it seems to have according to their support forum.

I will give it one more shot, but if that fails its going to have to be returned, sadly.
