Wonderful Book!,
This review is from: Quislings (Kindle Edition)
I think Poppet is one of the neatest independent authors around. I reviewed Siethe, previously. Let me warn everyone. Poppet doesn't write for kids nor for the faint of heart, so don't pick up her books looking for sunshine and lollipops! As with all of Poppet's writing, the characterization here is not lacking. She creates dark and mysterious personalities placed in extraordinary circumstances. Setting the book in the midst of Mayan cultural ramblings and modern crises is an especially neat treat for me. It's a rich and powerful tapestry of setting and atmosphere. I liked this book so much, that I'm guarding what I say so I give nothing away. Experience it for yourself. You'll love it.

Brilliantly Suspenseful,
By Troy Lambert "Troy" (North Idaho) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Quislings (Kindle Edition)
Quislings grabbed me from the start, and I fell in love with Usha. The little Italian girl with a brave heart wormed her way into mine. I rooted for her, prayed for her, and rejoiced with her. The tale begins with an innocent game of Spirit in the Glass--but the spirit that comes to call is not a friendly one. Three friends are suddenly drawn into a battle trying to understand the gods above them and the world around them. Usha discovers she must find a way to op[en the heart of heaven. The way is unclear and she is unable to determine the path, or answer the question "why me?"The story pulls you along, drawing you into a world of mythology and legend. Tattoos come to life, gods speak, the temples become a gateway to more than just worship and the outcome will take your breath away. Another great horror by a prolific and talented author. I can't wait to see what is next from her.

Another fantastic Poppet novel,

I read this in one sitting and was riveted. Poppet's books are known to keep me up all night and this was no exception. Quislings has non stop action, deliciously scary but so readable! As always, the romance scenes are sensual, erotic yet tastefully written. I'm always amazed by how well done her settings for her books are done and this is no exception. It might be a winter night here, but Quislings put me back on the beach in Mexico. All the background info on Mayan history is very interesting and must have taken a monumental amount of research. I don't like to give away plot,so I won't,but this is an excellent read. I would have paid bestseller price for any of her books. They are all very different and unusual, way above the same old tired redone plots. Treat yourself to something special.

Spooky... and brilliant!,
This review is from: Quislings (Kindle Edition)
After a night out drinking a group of four friends decide to play Spirit of the Glass and from there on I knew I was in for the ride of my life! This is part horror, part thriller, and I was honestly on edge the whole time reading unsure as to what was going to happen next! Poppet writes with a unique style that keeps you gripped. There was amazing background and information on the Mayan culture that I found truly fascinating. I will admit I read this book during the day, as it was scaring the bejeezers out of me! Prepare to be spooked folks...!

Watch out Mr. King someone else had got the Midas touch.,
This review is from: Quislings (Kindle Edition)
Poppet has done it yet again. Done what? Kept me awake and unable to do a damned thing until I finished reading this book. The horror is so beautifully crafted it had the hairs on the back of my neck standing up.Every sound became a question. There is no middle ground with this remarkable author, she slams you so hard you become breathless, expectant...waiting, and let's not ever make the mistake of thinking that horror is all that's on offer here,. Far from it, the layers of sensual and often erotic sexual encounters shift the focus momentarily, but not for too long...and woven into this wonderful mixture is the beautifully researched look into the Mayan Culture. I have promised myself never, ever, mess with seance's...this book clarifies that ... and leaves no doubt in anyone's mind...do not touch. Read the book, with the doors barred and the lights on...and preferably not alone. Watch out Mr. King someone else has the Midas touch.

Elegantly crafted and seriously creepy.,
This review is from: Quislings (Kindle Edition)
This is an impressive book, and quite unlike anything else I've encountered recently. The dialogue is snappy, often funny and rings true to life, and it's testament to the authors skill that we really care about the characters and the madness in which they find themselves. That adds to the tension as Poppet continues to turn the screw notch after notch...Recommended without hesitation, providing you like being scared, that is!

Loved it!,
This review is from: Quislings (Kindle Edition)
After a night on the town, four friends decide to finish their Halloween celebration with a seance. After all, it's just a game, right? The four find out soon enough, that's not so, in this tale that will scare your socks off.The story is set in beautiful Cancun, Mexico surrounded by turquoise seas, and ancient Mayan temples. The gods are back, and they have a mission for Usha. That's if everyone doesn't die first! This book kept me on the edge of my seat, tantalized all my senses, and brought forth every one of my emotions. And then it brought to life my biggest fear! All I can say is WOW! I loved it. In my opinion this is Poppet's best work so far, and since all of her work is best selling material that says a lot.

Brilliant, gripping and poetic,
By JET "JETaylor" (Connecticut) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Quislings (Kindle Edition)
Quislings is just the right mix of suspense and intrigue, written with such a poetic voice that lulled me into the book. Don't be deceived, that lull is captivating and heart pumping and drags you along and like the spells in the book, it hold you to the page until you've read the last words.Poppet did a brilliant job weaving history, theology, music and prophetic insights into the story in such a way that doesn't slow the action down. Bravo for another great read! |
