I don't know about the "dissing," but I like this book!,

What's up with John from New York? Did he read the book? I thought this was a place to give a book review? Anyway, I did read the book. I really liked the part about NOT sending a resume but instead sending a job proposal. IT WORKED. I did what the author said and I got a great new job!

Good for encouraging you, not big on techniques.,

Lots of common sense stuff. However, if a refresher and "coach" would be helpful to you, then this is a solid book to read.

Miller touts the benefits of changing jobs frequently, and of bringing in one's own team to your new employer to cut costs. What costs will that employer incur when he and his loyal team shove off again? Miller has loyalty only to his bank account.

Companies aren't going to like this book!!!,

I have been toying with the idea that maybe my past couple of employers didn't really have my welfare in mind. Oh, sure, they talk about the "team" and how "we are all in this together," but the thing I have finally come to realize is that companies talk the talk, but they don't walk the walk. If their stock price is down a little, or if they want to sell off a piece of the comapny to raise some cash to pay the managers their bonus, THEY WILL, with little regard for their employees! Miller is right in what he speaks in this book. Loyalty is to your fellow workers, not to your company. Read this book. It will help you see the reality of the current workplace!

It really works!,

"Quit Your Job..." is more than a how-to book, it's Miller's autobiography! Very easy and fast to read. I purchased the book in June 1999. Then got a NEW job in July 1999, leaving a job I'd held for nearly 6 years. Now in Feb 2000, I have ANOTHER NEW job! The first new job provided me with a 12.5% increase. This second new job is giving me a 33% increase over the previous job. When combining the increases from my two most recent jobs, I am now making 50% more than I was making at the old job I left only 7 months ago! Miller's advice works. I have watched friends change jobs frequently, and each time they gain substantial increases. Even if you do not change jobs, the book can help to give you a healthier perspective on WHY we hold down a job in the first place. My NEW MOTTO is this: "Work is a business partnership, not a lifetime marriage. I give my current employer 110% of my efforts. I am very hardworking and dedicated...while I'm there. Yet, my first loyalty is to myself and my family. I will always have one eye open for opportunities that will better my life educationally, professionally, and financially." And that really makes good sense if you think about your physical and spiritual health and well-being. Thank you, Mr. Miller!

NOT worth the $9.95...,

I brought this book home as an "impulse purchase," attracted by the promise of tidbits of humor and glimmers of actual insight.... Man, oh man, was I disappointed... The title itself is brilliant in its ability to pique a reader's curiosity, but really, once you've read the title, you've read the entire book.... Save your ten bucks and buy yourself something a little more useful... (Like some refill pages for your calendar/organizer book...)

I find it interesting that the lady from Florida writes a 1-star review (apparently because she doesn't like the other reviews) but she hasn't read the book. I thought these were BOOK reviews, not REVIEW reviews. I have read the book. It was fun to read and basically confirmed some trends I'm seeing in the job market. I recommend people buy the book.

I'm going to take the advice in this book and stop waiting for my company to notice my contribution. Gordon Miller is a career coach who leads by example, which is what I was looking for.
