4.0 out of 5 stars It was just right
This book was a page turner right off the bat. I really enjoy when my stories have mystery and romance. I also liked that the story focused more on love and trust between the characters that had nothing to do with race. Yes I know that there's still racism out there but it was nice not having it be a real big issue in this book. And I'm really hoping that a special...

3.0 out of 5 stars A frustrating read
I really like Tammy Williams last two books so I was looking forward to this one. Technically, Ms. Williams is an excellent writer. Grammar, flow, editing all great. What I found frustrating was the story line. Darci thinks her friend didn't commit suicide, Steed does. For 2/3 of the book it's back and forth, "no he didn't." "Yes, he did." "No he didn't." "Yes, he did."...

3.0 out of 5 stars A frustrating read, March 28, 2010

I really like Tammy Williams last two books so I was looking forward to this one. Technically, Ms. Williams is an excellent writer. Grammar, flow, editing all great. "Yes, he did." My goodness by Chapter 16 I was screaming at Darci "if you feel that strongly about it, hire a detective," and I was screaming at Steed, "If you love her can you just humor her and at least look into the possibility she could be right." On top of it, I wasn't sure why they even ended up in a relationship. They spent 1/3 of the book arguing, they acknowledge their attraction and then fast forward two months later. What did they have in common? Arrgghh!!! I have no idea how this relationship developed. I really want to say I liked it but I read it in doses. It's not a horrible book but it definitely was not a satisfying read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite right, March 30, 2010
This review is from: Not Quite Right (Indigo Love Spectrum) (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed Ms. Williams previous book, "Blindsided" so much that this was a total let down. I found the dialogue quite repetitive. I was so sick and tired of Steed and Darci going back and forth about her best friend (Kenny) committing suicide, I was going to SCREAM!!!!! Other than that this was an ok read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful read - loved it, March 9, 2010

The plot is great. After all it is a Tammy Williams book so that goes without saying. Read the synopsis for detail there.

Moving on, I have to say I loved the hero in Tammy Williams book "Not Quite Right." Come to think of it, I love all the guys that she has created. Everything CLICKS in her books, especially the camaraderie between her heroes and heroines with each other and the supporting cast of characters. "Not Quite Right" is no exception.

About her latest hero -- there is no denying the fact Steed McGraw is "lovable different". I loved him! He is like the grown up version of Bart Simpson, Dennis the Menace, Kevin of the Home Alone movies, and Eddie Haskell of Leave It to Beaver rolled into one. In short he can be a woman's worse nightmare but definitely to quote Marge Simpson "her very special guy." Steed is not easy; he's the kind of guy you love immensely and but find yourself tuning out some of the crustier and ridiculous things he says. It's okay because that is the little boy in him that remained young despite aging. This does not mean he is immature - far from it. Trust me, he is all MAN, just not your typical hero that fits into a specific mode.

He reminds me of another unique and beloved beyond belief character: Sam of the famous Sam and Alyssa duo. That's right - SAM. And like Alyssa, the heroine in "Not Quite Right" Darci Clark is the perfect match for Steed. Not just any woman can be with guys like Steed and Sam. It takes a special woman like Alyssa and Darci to handle the Bart/Dennis/Kevin/Eddie hero. Handling is too strong a word. A better choice is respond, accept, NOT try to change, etc. I adore heroines that do not try to remake a guy into their ideal of Prince Charming.

From the very first chapter I was engrossed in the story and I felt the connection between Steed and Darci -- even if they didn't! By chapter 4 I was singing this book's praises on an Amazon discussion thread. The chemistry between Steed and Darci was ... it was fire meets water. Depending on the day of the week or hour of the day either fire will evaporate water or water will extinguish fire. But try to imagine life without one to control / enhance the other? In other words these two are definitely equals and complement one another. In other words these two have PASSION! I'm not talking sex - I'm talking that mental connection, I'm talking the greatest emotion of all unconditional love and absolute acceptance without one deviating from their personality for the other.

Another major plus I mean HUGE is the surprise midway in the book. Excellent! Wonderful! I did not see it coming. I was beaming when I read chapter 8. I was like "OMG! ". And that is all I can say about that without ruining it.

One of the best lines in the book:

"Tell me Detective did you get that shiny badge out of a Cracker Jack Box"

"No, I got it from the same street vendor in New York who sold you that smart mouth."

Okay. I read that and I get all goofy - it is so Darci and Steed.

Remember this is a romance first. So read it like a romance and not a heartfelt classic and you will enjoy it. I wish Genesis Press offered their books electronically because I would definitely love to have this on my Sony Reader too. I received the book yesterday morning and finished it in one day. One day! It was that good and that great of a page turner. This is Tammy Williams 3rd book, each one better than the last and she is firmly planted on my "Buy this book -- synopsis unread" list.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay...But Quite Repetitive, July 6, 2010

I thoroughly ENJOYED Ms. Williams previous novels, Choices and Blindsided...unfortunately in this one the dialogue is quite repetitive (ANNOYINGLY so)...that being said, it's DEFINITELY the mystery that keeps me turning the pages...the characters main and secondary are ENTERTAINING and memorable...I also hope one of the supporting characters gets their own story...and I ABSOLUTELY love the ending...it's a HEARTWARMING and SENSUAL conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT QUITE RIGHT, May 3, 2010

ANY BOOK THAT TAMMY WILLIAMS WRITES I WILL READ OR MOVE HEAVEN AND EARTH TO GET IT. HER BOOKS, CHOICES AND BLINDSIDED ARE ALL TIME FAVORITES WITH ME BOTH FOR THE STORYLINE AND THE HUMOR. SO IT IS NO SURPRISE THAT TAMMY CAME UP WITH ANOTHER WINNER IN NOT QUITE RIGHT. THIS STORY IS SO UNUSUAL. I KNEW IMMEDIATELY THAT DARCI CLARKE WAS RIGHT AND THAT HER FRIEND KENNETH WARWICK WAS NOT THE VICTIM BUT, I COULD NOT PERCEIVE HOW TAMMY WAS GOING TO BRING IT ABOUT. BUT, I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT A STORY TELLER LIKE TAMMY WILLIAMS WAS GOING TO PULL IT OFF AND SHE DID. I LOVED THE MAIN CHARACTERS. ESPECIALLY HARD HEADED DETECTIVE STEED McGRAW.
I WISH TAMMY WILLIAMS WAS A LITTLE MORE PROLIFIC IN HER WRITING BECAUSE IT IS HARD TO WAIT FOR HER NEXT ONE. I'LL KEEP CHECKING WITH AMAZON.COM

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad read, April 23, 2010
This review is from: Not Quite Right (Indigo Love Spectrum) (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book recently while camping with my children at Maho Bay, St. John. It sufficiently kept my interest so that I wanted to finish it. I have to agree though, with some reviewers who found the contstant back and forth between Steed and Darcy about whether or not her best friend had committed suicide quite frustrating. But all in all I appreciated that this book was about a romance, not smut or erotica. The story was well developed. By the end the reader could appreciate why each character reacted to situations in the way they did. The ending was quite a twist and a surprise. Turns out that the very thing that Steed and Darcy argued most about, was the one thing that helped bring them together in the end. Also in solving the "whodunit" Steed resolves a very personal issue that has kept him from being more open and trusting in the past. I'd say this one is well worth the price I paid for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Twist, October 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Not Quite Right (Indigo Love Spectrum) (Mass Market Paperback)
You know...somewhere about 1/3 of the way through this book, I got frustrated enough to throw it down, and log on here to read other people's reviews.

I chuckled at those voicing my opinion of the back and forth "no he didn't", "yes he did!", "no he didn't", "yes he did!" thing being BEYOND annoying, and while there was a part of me that wanted to keep that book in its tossed-across-the-room position...there was another part of me willing to give it another shot...and I'm so glad that I did.

The twist (which I'm glad the author allowed us to know, instead of just guess--good job!) was what saved the story, in my honest opinion. The reader wasn't left in the dark, and I really appreciated that.

I cried when the truth was discovered, uncovered and rectified, and as much as I thought murder would kill the mood of any romance story, it definitely proved me wrong and improved it.

I have to say, I liked Darci. She was definitely a loveable character, who was steadfast in her beliefs and made you respect her. Steed...not so much, lol. He just seemed like a little boy to me, a lost little boy who was either emotionally too hot or too cold, and I didn't find myself attracted to his character at all.

I will also add that I'm in agreement with what another reviewer said--I really didn't like that they skipped timeframes so early in the story--I think it was like 2 weeks later, or something. I remember going back to the page before, and wondering if I missed something. That didn't make for a smooth read at all.

I also didn't like that the main characters were already in kissy kissy mode so shortly after meeting each other. I like when a story is built up to that level, and there they were ready to lay one on each other, so quickly after their first meeting--especially when they both seemed to despise each other.

The ending was lovely, however. I really enjoyed this story, and definitely recommend it.

The beginning is tedious, just...muddle through it, and I promise the rest will be worth it :)

2.0 out of 5 stars Most annoying characters ever!!!, October 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Not Quite Right (Indigo Love Spectrum) (Mass Market Paperback)
I found myself not feeling connected with any of the characters in this book. Darci seems immature, spoiled, and rude. McGraw seems distant and pigheaded. Their "Relationship" seemed phony on to many aspects to list - Overall if you like romance novels about spoiled weak women and can spare a couple of hours to read many chapters of their tantrums throwing and attitudes than you've hit pay dirt.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovers brought together by a "dead" friend, June 7, 2010
This review is from: Not Quite Right (Indigo Love Spectrum) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was the most unusual love story that I ever read. Darci and Steed were mutually attracted to each other from the beginning. The dialogue among all of the characters were hilarious, especially when Kevin's "will" was being read, with varying reactions. I think that Kevin should have his own story since he was the most interesting secondary character.
