A Great Piece of Work - Buy It!,
By A.B. (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Quixotic (Audio CD)
Matt Keating has been putting out great music since the early 90s and with Quixotic he has created one of his best albums to date. I could write about which songs are my favorites, or why I find something interesting about every song on this album, but that's just describing my experience. Everyone has their own take on an album.
You should just buy it and listen for yourself. If you are a fan of great songwriters like Peter Case, Loudon Wainwright III, Freedy Johnston, Elvis Costello, etc. you should add this CD to your collection. You will undoubtedly find some gems on here. Trust me. It is well worth it (heck, it's a 2-CD set, priced cheaper than many single disc albums). Albums like this don't come around all that often.

This review is from: Quixotic (Audio CD)
If it's all about the song, then Quixotic is what it's all about - twenty-three guitar-based tracks ranging from sumptuous mellow rock ballads to acoustic rock tunes. Keating's gift is his ability to craft accessible, infectious melodies while steering clear of hollow pop songs. Keating's sound and voice are clear, honest and his lyrics are intelligent - all of which appears almost effortless. The ease with which one engages with his songs does not reduce their staying power. After 15 years listening to Matt Keating, I find his music, especially this release, as engaging and enjoyable as ever. GENRES: Folk Rock, Mellow Rock, Lite Alt.
BUY IF YOU LIKE: Elvis Costello, Freedy Johnston, Mark Mulcahy, Ryan Adams. MUST HEAR TRACKS: "Little By Little," "Runaway Clown," "Lion's Share of Nothing," "Road To Ruin," "Romeoville." |
