My thoughts: I chose to read and review this book from Thomas Nelson Publishers because Sarah Palin intrests me. I thought what better way to learn about her than through her own words? If you like her or if you don't, I think Sarah is here to stay. This short book illustrates where she stands on many subjects. Matt Lewis collected these quotes, which span the time period from 2006 to 2010, and placed them in chapters organized by subjects such as Economics, Crime, Education and Foreign Policy to name a few. My favorite quotes as a whole were found in the chapters called "On Being Sarah" ("I don't like to shop") and "On Family" ("The toughest thing has been the shots taken against the kids, against the family. They're Kids. The mama grizzly bear in me comes out....") The chapter called "On Tina Fey" was just fun. Sarah is not shy about her faith, so I wish there had been more in that chapter.

While no two people can agree on every thing I found I do agree with her thoughts on many things. Reading these quotes I came to feel that she is a down to earth, real type person, one I might enjoy meeting. Some of these quotes made me laugh, made me think and shake my head in wonder. It is a quick read at about 180 pages and one I will recommend.

Quote: pg 37 "Sarah Palin: I like running alone, and having the Secret Service with me added a little bit of pressure. I'm thinking I gotta have good form and can't be hyperventilating and can't be showing too much pain, and that adds a little more pressure on you as you're trying to be out there enjoying your run. Then I fell coming down a hill and was so stinkin` embarassed that a golf cart full of Secret Service guys had to pull up beside me...In the debate you could see a big, fat, ugly Band-Aid on my right hand.

The Quotable Rogue - The Ideals of Sarah Palin in Her Own Words (edited and with a Foreword by Matt Lewis) was an enjoyable read. It was easy to pick up and put down due to the nature of the book and I think I learned quite a bit about Sarah Palin along the way. Lewis has the chapters laid out by topic and then provides actual quotes from Sarah Palin about each topic that she is talking about. He lists where the quote comes from as well as the context of the information so you have an idea what is going on.

Lewis describes how Palin was fairly unheard of back in 2008 when she became John McCain's running mate and since then she has made quite a name for herself. It seems like Palin became a household name overnight and although I'm not huge into following all the intricacies of politics, even I was familiar with Sarah Palin and I knewall about her family and the drama that the tabloids covered.

"She was beloved by conservatives, disdained by liberals, carefully studied by centrist independents, and dissected relentlessly by an insatiable media machine".

Overall I would give this book a check plus. I especially agree with a quote describing the book - "Matt Lewis has gathered some of Palin's most memorable remarks, reminding us that whether you consider her a rogue or a patriot, her words reveal a genuine love for America."

And in the end, isn't that what matters?

This is a book of quotes by Sarah Palin. Love her or hate her, she is going to be a part of the American Political scene for quite some time. According to the editor, Matt Lewis, the goal of the book is to set the record straight on what Sarah has and has not said. Often, quotes attributed to Sarah are actually paraphrased for comedic value rather than actual quotes.

I did enjoy the book, but did not find it a quick read or even truly an engaging one. Rather than a book to spend time just sitting and reading, this is a book that I would prefer to have on hand to read one or two things here and there, or as reference material.

The quotes in this book cover a range of approximately five years (2005 through 2010) and you can see Sarah's changing opinions in some of them. I find this refreshing - it shows that she can change and grow as her understanding of a situation changes.

I recently received the book The Quotable Rogue to review from Book Sneeze. The Quotable Rogue The Ideals of Sarah Palin in her own Words edited by Matt Lewis is a book of Palins quotes. I couldn't wait to dig in to this book. Lucky for me we had rain the very day it came in the mail , so I had the opportunity to do just that. Matt Lewis has divided the book into over thirty topics that interest Americans today. Anything from abortion, our President, to family this book covers it. Each section is filled with Quotes from Palin on these very topics. The book ends with a section of quotes from others about Palin. The quotes vary from humorous to thought provoking.

Here are a few of my favorites :

We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty and sincerity and dignity.
-Republican National Convention Speech in Minneapolis, Sept 3, 2008

-Only dead fish go with the flow.
Explaining why she quit the governorship, Huffington Post July 3, 2009

-The difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull?
Lipstick.
-Republican National Convention Speech in Minneapolis, September 3, 2008

-We're not educating our youth about the exceptional nature of America. For America to survive, we've got to pass that on to the next generation.
-Los Angeles Times, June 26, 2010

This book has over 400 quotes included. A great little handbook of inspiration and insight into the woman Palin is. A quick , easy read.

ON BEING SARAH: My dad always says, "Don't retreat, just reload." Don't let anybody tell you to sit down and shut up. - Kansas City Star, May 1, 2010

Even if you are not a Sarah Palin fan, you can take away something from this book. Some of her quotes are simply something you would say to your child or a good old friend. I would tell my daughter "don't let someone tell you sit down and shut up." Maybe you will want to pick up one of her other books after reading
