Birthday Present,
By EJ Luykx "EJ Luykx" (Walkersville, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Quotes on the Beauty of Aging (Paperback)
I received this as a gift for my birthday and the title is a bit of a misnomer as I think it is more a beautiful little book of quotes on living and experience and the love of life. This compliation lead me to Ms. Crowe's other complilations all of which are great gifts and nice to have around for a new viewpoint from time to time.

This book is full of inspirational wisdom, touching sentiment (NOT sentimentality) and beautiful illustrations. It would make a lovely book for anyone feeling the press of time. I keep mine on my desk, where I can turn to it often.

I was hoping for a book with a bit more weight. This is a relatively thin volume, hence the 4 stars. The quotations are all focused and on-topic. When I was a young reporter, I was assigned to interview the author of a book of quotations. I asked him how he had come to write the book. He said to collect quotations, organize your files every once in a while, and someday you'll have a book. Or, in this case, you'll at least have a little booklet.

A Treat for anyone who is aging!,
This review is from: Quotes on the Beauty of Aging (Hardcover) (Greatest Quotes Series) (Hardcover)
This is an intensely beautiful and dignified treatise visually on a subject that one normally thinks with abhorrence. In the Western world, it is thought that we give little importance to the venerable or to those who are aging. This book both refutes that and instead clarifies what is of value in the aging process. Mary Naccash's art ranges from the intensely romantic, thoughtful and beautiful to the joyful, cheerful, humorous or just plain fun. The ideas in the quotations are carefully woven into and thredded together with the art in a delicate shimmer on aging. One may not know that this was the most loving tribute, that any daughter could give her mother. Regardless of this knowledge, this book stands well on its own merit, for what ideas it offers in the vast compilation of quotes again ranging from the ancient Greek to the more contemporary.
A wonderful birthday gift to anyone who will undoubtedly experience aging. At least now, they can better appreciate it. |
