Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Whether you are a general inspiring your troops, a teacher educating a student, a father or mother lecturing your child, a salesperson making a point, a preacher moving your congregation or a speaker motivating an audience, there is nothing that can empower you more than a Tremendous quote.

If you want to get their attention quickly and be remembered, begin with a Tremendous quote, end with a Tremendous quote, and season your remarks with Tremendous quotes.

I began reading quotes thirty-five years ago and now my name is mentioned around the world because of my repeating a quote I read in a book written over one hundred years ago and heard repeated by Mac McMillen forty years ago:

"You are the same today as you will be in five years except for two things: the people you meet and the books you read."

A Tremednous quote never gets stale and it becomes more a part of you every time you quote it.

Read and reread a few biographies. This will give you a greater appreciation for the quote becuase you know the life it came from. Two of my favorites are Abraham Lincoln and Oswald Chambers. Everything I say is flavored by their wisdom.

Begin now to memorize a few Tremendous quotes. Repeat them to yourself aloud at every opportunity. Repeat them with feeling and enthusiasm. This will make a Tremens difference in you, and your listeners will reward you with attentive minds, hungry hearts and warm smiles.

4.0 out of 5 stars "If we encountered a man of rare intellect we should ask him what books he read"--Emerson, November 25, 2011
This review is from: Quotes are Tremendous (Paperback)
As far as books on quotations goes ,this is by far not the most extensive;but is still quite good.It is just under 200 pages and contains somewhere around 2000 quotes.It is more directed at life and leadership,and more suited for use in motivation and leadership training.With books of quotatins,organization is always an issue.Whether by subject,the quoter,the quotee,time period,ethnic,humor,occupation ,or a host of other ways;using a book to find a quotation is always a challenge.For instance does one look under books,writers,literary,readers,or what to find a quote about studying,learning,wisdom,knowledge or what? In this case,Jones has organized the quotes under 82 subjects;and even then, there is much overlapping.For interest "books" shows up in quotes in several subjects and under books as well.For instance you will find "book" quotes under Athiesm,Bible,courage,libraries,etc.Hence,you may want to refind a quote about books and it is somewhere else under a different subject.In most cases, the quote is given the name of who it is attributed to;but there is no index as to the originators.Although most of the quotes are attributed to famous or well known people,I found many attributed to people I'd never heard of.Also most quote resource books show the dates of the quoter.
My comments are just intended to show how complicated it can be in organizing and searching for just the right quote of any particular situation.
There is a quote in this book that goes well with my comments;

"A fine quotation is a diamond on the finger of a man of wit,and a pebble in the hand of a fool."--Joseph Roux
A great quote,but where would one find it in the book,and who is Joseph Roux?

This review is from: Quotes are Tremendous (Paperback)
I use this book by Charlie Tremendous Jones as a reference book. Whenever I would like to show off a bit, I find a suitable quotation in the book and use it, quoting the author, of course.
I recommend it to anyone liking quotes.
