I was lucky enough to have Anna Gade as a professor in my undergraduate studies of religion. Her teaching style is carried out in this book, it is effective without bogging down the introductory reader. If you want an introduction to the Qur'an, Gade is the way to go.

I was recommended this book by a friend of mine who studied religion in university, and I was not disappointed. It's the best way to learn about the Qur'an if you actually want to understand it in context.
