Outstanding,

This review is from: The Qur'an (Hardcover)
I picked this up because I always try new translations when they come out. This is an accessible translation of the Qur'an, written in elegant but not pedantic English, extremely true to the Arabic without losing the poetic impact. The layout, size and format are so conducive to absorption and reading, that I stood some time in the bookstore reading before I purchased. Among modern English translations, I think this will become a great contender.

Kindle version has no verse numbers,

This review is from: The Qur'an: (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition) (Kindle Edition)
This is a wonderful translation of the Qur'an, but the method of including the verse numbers in the margins (print version) has been left out in the Kindle version. It's difficult to take off more than one star, as Khalidi's work is of such high caliber, but it is worth pointing out to those who are considering the Kindle version that you will be unable to "look up" a verse (rendering the Kindle version almost unusable for anything more than reading straight through). As far as I can tell, even the surahs are unnumbered.

This review is from: The Qur'an: A New Translation (Paperback)
I desired a translation of the Qur'an which I could read through and think about on my own. This book was all that I had hoped for.

For what I payed for the Quran, I found the translation to be good. I also found the binding to be very cheaply made, almose like a binding you would find in a book club volume. I hope it holds together when I go to study it..K. Davis
