Really this should only be 1-star. Modems either work or they don't. And this one does not. It consistently fails me, and AT&T has not been willing to replace it. A technician came in and said that all of my wireless problems are because of this modem. It never goes out for too long of a time, but it also goes out multiple times a day. So when I am surfing the web, for three minutes, the connection is suddenly lost and I can't access any sites. Then it comes back on its own. Very poor product.

The best aspect of this modem is its terrific diagnostic features - truly excellent. But my first one failed in 1yr and 10 days and AT&T wouldn't replace it. The second one is now 18 months old and is showing signs of failing (doesn't retrain properly, many outages that aren't traceable to the telco or the ISP). So, I'm looking for a modem from another manufacturer that has terrific diagnostics but is more reliable.

I ordered this Gateway making sure to click on the buy new button. It came in a new box but when I went to set it up it already had a user name in it and was set up for a wireless network. I restored defaults and then added my own information in. These gateways seem to work great. The old one I had lasted 3 years. The guy from quest says they only last 3 to 5 years for some reason. The wireless is awesome though. I get access in most of my house which is made of 18 inch thick adobe walls.

I have a 2wire, and it is the most infuriating modem I have ever owned. The signal is sporadic at best. I talked with an AT&T representative he tried to put a positive spin on it, calling it a very "sensitive" modem. Spend your money elsewhere, unless you are some sort of masochist.

I'm currently using my second AT&T 2701HG-B both obtained from AT&T! While this is what AT&T distributes as a home Wifi router, my experience has shown them to be unreliable as well as somewhat intermittent. The unreliable part due to a burnout of the first Wifi router and the intermittent part because both Wifi routers have locked up with my NetTalk VOIP home phone land line. While the NetTalk VOIP problems haven't been confirmed as a Wifi router problem I have also observed Mozilla Firefox and OS lockups on every pc computer in the house which includes a pc, a laptops, a notebook, two Kindles, a Roku and two Apples an I-pad and an I-phone all setup to log into our home wifi network when in range. Attached to the four port router is the NetTalk VOIP, a desktop computer, a 4TB NAS and a four port switch for two network printers. As a result I suspect my NetTalk VOIP intermittent lockup problems might be my wifi router? This problem while annoying is easily resolved through cycling power to the NetTalk device and as I'm the person normally using the home phone but my wife has threatened to go back to AT&T telephone if its not fixed, at a $50/month cost. Several months ago she even bought a four handset cordless phone as a fix (if the phone doesn't work replace the phone)? This wasn't the best troubleshooting but I wasn't real surprised when the phone locked up again.
So from observations of all problems I suspect the Wifi router. My next attempt to resolve my NetTalk VOIP intermittent lockup problem will be to buy a Netgear WNDR3400 N600 Dual Band Wireless Router. I feel over the past two years at $50/month saving this router has been paid for along with one each of the three or four VOIP devices available. In all likelihood replacing these devices one at a time will resolve my problem. When its resolved I'll write up reviews for each device allowing others to benefit from my experience.

I ordered this item on 1/13/2012 and it failed on 5/15/2012. It began to re-boot occasionally about 2 weeks before it failed. It now simply re-boots continually. I won't buy another ATT 2-wire or buy from YuWen Huang again.

I bought one of these used two years ago and it still functions quite well. I know some do not last well. The main issue (a solder joint in the power supply) is extremely easy to repair -- but ATT, being a giant PAIN, prefers to harangue people into buying more hardware; any glitch is a good enough excuse to dun you for more money.

I'm not even sure how old the modem is that I bought. It was shabby when I got it. I plugged it in, filled out the forms online, it worked fine. I kept it on until I moved and got cable internet instead. That's all.

If you're on a budget, this is a VERY good modem+router. I was able to log in with an ancient Compaq laptop, several iPads (including the 3) and Android devices too, plus Kindle Fire and Fire HD. I did boost the output to 10 in order to have better performance in the large back yard. Aside from ATT's constant spamming, DSL using this modem worked fine. The only problem I ever had was when a techie accidentally pulled out my connection while doing something else in the box down the street.

ATT is often obnoxious but don't blame the hardware!

We got this to place a broken one and it didn't work out of the box. When the AT&T service guy show up he took at look at this and he say "Don't buy that, it's junk". It's funny, even the AT&T guy call their own stuff junk.
