Since I'm a keyboard player I need a metronome that can be heard above all-out playing on a grand piano, so the loudness of this one is a plus as far as I was concerned. Otherwise, it has all of the basic features one would need, including an A-440 tuning note, and the price can't be beat (no pun intended). Some noticeable drawbacks: first, although you can set the meter to duple, triple or quadruple, the different tone for the downbeat can't be disabled--i.e. you're forced to choose a meter. I have to say I find it easy to ignore the downbeat tone being in different places if one is practicing something that changes time signature, but someone else might not. Second, I had to replace the first one I bought when it failed after being dropped only a few inches from the music rack onto the piano strings--even something this cheap should be a little more durable. Finally, the push button on-off switch means that the thing can (and has, in my case) turned itself on when stuffed in a carry-on--an electronic beeping is not a good thing to hear on a crowded airplane :-). Otherwise, I'm perfectly happy.

Qwik Time Digital Metronome ' QWIQ7I purchased this metronome to use as an aid while I walk for exercise. I like to walk to a steady beat. It works fine for this purpose. I have two minor complaints. I suppose they could be major problems if one is using this metronome for music. These are: 1. I can't control the volume of the beat. It's very loud and hurts if I put my earphone all the way in my ear. 2. Notice that I said "earphone". The beat only comes out of the left earbud. This is not a problem for my use, but might be irritating to some. It's a good product for the price.

Great to use with students,

I use this metronome with my beginner piano students. The different toned downbeat is an excellent tool to help the students know where the beginning of the measure should fall. The beat is nice and loud so they have no problem hearing it. It's simple to use and change the bpm--even my really young and inexperienced students can figure it out. I've had mine for about 6 years and it's still on it's original battery. It works wonderfully!

Spend the Extra Money,
This review is from: Qwik Time QT7 Metronome (Electronics)
I'm a piano student, performer, and instructor, and this is one of my least favorite metronomes because:1. You are forced to adopt a time signature (2/4, 3/4, or 4/4) without turning off the downbeat. Even for beginning students, this is completely unnecessary (downbeats are a natural response to constant rhythm and are picked up by youngsters very easily). The constant downbeat provided by the metronome becomes a hindrance to students in creating their own innate sense of rhythm and makes their practice time less efficient by increasing wait time between exercises. 2. It can take a long time to reach your desired tempo, and if you practice a lot of varying exercises, this can eat up valuable time. It's also difficult to reach a specific tempo, as the buttons seem to be in need of calibration. 3. The tone blends with the piano sometimes; I have students who get lost because the piano can overwhelm the metronome. This may not be a problem with other instruments. This is enough for me to have my students switch to a slightly more expensive (but worthwhile) product. More advanced students tend to see the benefits right away and enjoy the switch, whereas my beginners tend to show more confidence and accuracy in their own rhythm.

This product can be set for certain time signatures, sounding a beat of a different frequency when the count repeats. I was disappointed that I couldn't get rid of that higher beat and program it just to repeat the same beat. Students like to start wherever during an excercise, and that odd beat throws both of us off, if we don't start with it, or the student gets back on time but not on the original beat.

This device works well, purchased for my wife who needed one while she is learning to play a piano, her teacher loved it and will probably purchase one as well or one like it.It was packaged well, arrived very quickly, weeks before it was supposed to by the shipping time estimates or allowances, communications with the vendor were replied to quickly as well. Bottom line, Good product from an excellent vendor, forgot to mention this vendor had the lowest price in all of my research too.

A fine metronome for being carried along in my violin case,
By Jurgen (Dortmund, Germany) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Qwik Time QT7 Metronome (Electronics)
I bought this metronome because I needed one that(i) fits into my violin case (ii) is loud enough and sounds like a wooden metronome. The reason for the second item: I find it difficult to hear the very high beeps that most of the other small metronomes produce. When I am playing violin, I have other high frequency sounds, and noise, near my ear. For both of these purposes this metronome is a very good choice and worth more than its rather modest price. What I find annoying is that you have to choose a meter. This can be very troublesome, in particular if you have to work at some rythmically complicated music. So at home I use a different metronome, but as regards the original purpose: having a metronome with me while travelling, it is a very good choice

I am a piano teacher with 3 children at home that also play the piano. We got this for Christmas last year, and this was a very basic and affordable metronome that will get the job done. However, it always sounds louder on beat 1-which drives me and my children CRAZY! If this one feature wasn't so annoying-I could easily give it 5 stars.

I bought this for my son because of the low price but his teacher tells me the sound is not loud enough (he plays saxophone).

I bought this metronome on the advice of my son's drum teacher. It seems to work well. My son enjoys practicing with it. He uses earbuds with it so that he can hear it over his own drumming
