Dubbed "sheer genius" by New York Times bestselling author, Stephen M.R. Covey, RESUMES ARE DEAD is not for the faint of heart. This ebook tackles one of life's most compelling choices: money or meaning? The audio is relevant, timely and career-critical. Learn how to design a career that supports your quest for both money and meaning—providing you the freedom to pursue your dreams and live your ideal lifestyle.

This is career development reworked, unconventional and results-driven. “My verdict: SHEER GENIUS! I love it, I think it’s brilliant, I think it’s bold and courageous, I think it will help people out everywhere.”

—Stephen M.R. Covey, author of The New York Times bestseller, The Speed of Trust

“Richie hits the nail on the head in the pursuit of dreams. We cannot sit back and wait for life to serve up opportunities, but rather we must create our value and contribute in a powerful way.”

—Kenny Anderson, author of Common Denominators for Success

“Can I just say WOOOOOOOOOOOW!!! I’m just moved and on fire right now. Very relevant and timely message for our days (and for everyone)!”

—Juri Widiger, Brussels, Belgium

“This is a great book at so many levels. If you are looking to find your own direction or just need the motivation to move forward, Richie’s book can help. I found it empowering as an employer as well. I want the employees Richie describes in this book, and it helps me to recognize what I need to do to attract and keep those kinds of employees.”

—Jeff Heggie, CEO, Kodiak Mountain Stone, Canada

“This turned my brain upside-down—in the best way possible!”

—Rachel DeVault, photographer, mother, wife, Texas

3rd message: “Dude. I got the job. Thank you for your inspiration!”

—Adam Buchanan, Portland, Oregon

1st message: “I should NOT have read this just before going to bed last night. I felt so empowered after I read it and I had a million ideas going through my head. Amazing experience, but a little rough on the sleep department.”

2nd message: “When I read the book I was stuck in a rut. After reading your book, changes came immediately. I found an internship with a major opera company, introduced myself and was hired within a week. Life is different. Your book gave me the key to a door to the world that I had been staring at my entire life, but I didn’t know how to open.”

—Olivia Biddle, Adjunct Professor of Voice and Music

5.0 out of 5 stars Short, to the point advice. April 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
His point about the "Resume being dead" is that businesses and people are more interested in what you can actually do for them, not in a list of things you done in the past. You need to have a good understanding of yourself and what you want, to make the advice in this book really work for you. I like that about it. How can you have a job you will love doing if you don't know what that is? My favorite piece of advice, and there were many, was his law of "Congruence": "Do work that is suited to your passion. Capture their minds by fitting a need. Congruent value is aligning the employer or clients need with your value added. Employers and clients are selfish, it's about them. They take the risks, it is their money, respect that. Be aware that needs change. Be agile." I think this is the heart of the book, understand yourself, understand what people are looking for, find where those two needs intersect. It's a quick, enjoyable read, but it takes time and thought to put the principles in place.

2.0 out of 5 stars Makes a few points with too much cheerleading May 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The first problem with this book is its use of embedded videos. The author does understand that not everyone can play the videos directly within the book and does provide YouTube links that owners of low-end Kindles like myself could go and type into a browser. I didn't do this. I own a low-end Kindle specifically because I want a reading experience. If I wanted to do video, I'd use my netbook or my Nook Tablet.

Another problem with the embededed video is that the screenshots of his videos broke up the flow of the book. I think that if Mr. Norton wanted his readers to view his videos, he should have placed a link to them at the end of his ebook to make it a less jarring experience for people who expected a reading experience.

I've been quibbling about format up until this point. I also have problems with the content. I believe that Mr. Norton makes a few good points (find a job that fits your passion, be prepared to execute projects on your own, etc) but these are drowned out by his "rah-rah" to project 100% confidence to your employer.

He also failed to sell me on his belief that you can always have wealth with meaning. Sometimes there is a tradeoff.

I think a better book to read if you want a fulfilling career with sufficient income is Do What You Love, The Money Will Follow: Discovering Your Right Livelihood. To counter Mr. Norton's belief that if you choose meaning over money you'll always struggle to find the money to support your beliefs, try How to Get What You Want In Life With the Money You Already Have or The Complete Tightwad Gazette.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pull the other one April 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I got this for free and that is about what it's worth.
Isn't it interesting that most of the reviews that rave about this "book" are written on the same day by newcomers to Amazon? Hmmmmmm.....tells you something, doesn't it?
