Product Description

Amazon.com Review

One of Rösle's superb kitchen tools, this 8-inch ice-cream scoop has fine edges on its 2-1/4-inch-long head to cleanly cut into the hardest ice cream or sherbet and create uniformly shaped scoops in one motion. Like all Rösle tools, utensils, and Open Kitchen storage components, this scoop is made of 18/10 stainless steel for rustproof beauty and long-lasting durability. The round handle has a satin finish to conceal finger marks. The handle is sealed against water and has a hanging ring so the scoop can be conveniently stored on a hook in the Open Kitchen system of Rösle basic rails and Gridwalls or hung on any hook or peg. The scoop is sturdy, balanced, and exceptionally comfortable in the hand. All Rösle products are dishwasher-safe, and carry a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Product Description

The Rosle Ice Cream Scoop quickly and easily forms ice cream, sherbet, or sorbet into attractive round shapes with the help of its smooth, finely formed bowl. Made of durable 18/10 stainless steel, the scoop will not bend even when used on the hardest ice cream. In addition, the scoop has no moving parts to break or malfunction and will provide years of excellent service. The scoop measures 8.1 inches long and is dishwasher safe.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great design, beautifully uniform scoops, December 14, 2004
By
K. Kasabian (Silicon Valley, CA) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Rösle 12741 Ice Cream Scoop (Kitchen)
After too many bent spoons to count, we broke down and bought this scoop. Its engineering has exceeded my expectations on a couple of fronts:

First, the scoop itself has very thin (but strong) edges that slice easily into even hard ice creams with less effort than other scoops I've tried.

Second, the shape of the scoop does indeed produce beautifully round spheres of your favorite frozen dessert...ideal for anyone who values presentation and function.

Update (May 2010): I was fortunate to buy the scoop when I did; it was made in Germany and is as good as new. Unfortunately, the product is now manufactured in China; unsettling to see the price remain the same, since quality has been compromised with the switch to inferior materials. I won't be paying a premium price for Rosle products any longer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Design flaws from cost cutting, July 13, 2009
This review is from: Rösle 12741 Ice Cream Scoop (Kitchen)
As other reviewers have mentioned, the scoop itself is fabricated separately and welded onto the pre-made shaft and handle, no doubt to cut production cost. The choice of metal for the welding appears to brass or copper, and it will tarnish after repeated use. fabricating a stainless steel 18/10 utensil with a rust-prone joint where inert structural stability is needed the most is incredibly short-sighted.

Over the recent years, Rosle has shifted productions lines to China, such that most if not all Rosle utensils are now made in China. I have no problems paying the price premium that Rosle charges if they can guarantee that the quality is unchanged (after all the computer that you are reading this review is also made in China). Sadly this is not the case.

3.0 out of 5 stars China not the problem, May 3, 2009
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rösle 12741 Ice Cream Scoop (Kitchen)
This scoop is made in China, but that's not the problem. The problem is the exhorbitant price that can only be justified by the "Rosle" name. The scoop is unremarkable, though it does not suffer the fatal flaws of many junk scoops out there. The scoop works fine, but it is by no means as special as some reviews suggest. The edge of the scoop isn't particularly sharp, the balls of hard ice cream it scoops are not especially round, ice cream does stick to the scoop, and the brazing on the joint between the scoop and handle is not ground smooth and polished -- it looks like any ordinary, careless weld that was just plated over. This scoop should cost no more than $8.
