Killer Mike got his formal introduction to the industry when he first appeared on the Outkast single "The Whole World" for which he won a Grammy. Mike then signed to Outkast's Aquemini label, which was distributed by Columbia Records, and in 2003 released his debut album, "Monster" which went Gold. After a short stay at Big Boi’s label, Purple Ribbon/Virgin, ... Read more in Amazon's Killer Mike Store

Editorial Reviews

Over a decade deep in the rap game, Mike has released critically hailed records and won a Grammy for best Rap Collaboration with Outkast for the song "The Whole World." But, in no uncertain terms, Mike will tell you that R.A.P. Music is his finest accomplishment to date. He'll even call it a "classic." Of course, every rapper calls every one of their albums a classic. The only difference is that Mike's right.

5.0 out of 5 stars That old-time religion June 7, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
1988-age 12. I'm sitting in the passenger's seat of a red convertible. the high school kid driving the car puts on N.W.A.'s Straight Outta Compton. My world will never be the same.

1993: Driving through Times Square in a white jeep with the top down, Enter the Wu-Tang goes in the tape deck. Again things change.

FFWD to 2012-Killer Mike's R.A.P. Music hearkens back to the music that came out of the Bronx and scared the $#&% out of your parents. Forget Kanye and his disco lights and his fashion shows and full length films, this is Boyz in the Hood, Menace 2 Society, Ice Cube, RUN DMC, Geto Boys, and Public Enemy.

Intelligent and driven, this is a complete album with enough moods to satisfy most people, from the wistful "Anywhere But Here" and "Willie Burke Sherwood", to the war drums of "Don't Die" and "Big Beast", to the introspective micro/macro reverie of "Reagan", to the soaring and spiritual title track. If you want to hear Kanye and Jay Z singing about how they're better than you over a catchy beat, buy "Watch The Throne". If you want a love song to hip hop, buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dope Album May 15, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Killer Mike hooks up with Brooklyns own El-P to make R.A.P. Music (which stands for Rebellious African People Music) according to Killer Mike. I'm going to tell you right now if your looking for swag rap, tight clothes and bright colorful shirts this album is not for you. This is real music now that watered down stuff, the closest thing to a club song on here is "Big Beast" which goes hard and features TI, Bun B, & Trouble. Killer Mike gets political on this album and throws shots at Obama, Bush, Clinton, Reagan as well the Government. He says a lot things on here what other rappers are afraid to say, on "JoJo's Chillin" Mike tells a funny story, showing his storytelling abilities, then on the song "Reagon" and "Don't Die" he goes off even more, pulling no punches sorta like a 90s Ice Cube. It's about time somebody stood up for Hop Hop and went against the grain, show rebellion and Killer Mike did that. El-P did a great job on the production and Mike kills it with his raps. A dope project worth checking out. This album wont get mainstream attention because its too real, its raw Hip Hop !

5.0 out of 5 stars This album is the truth! June 10, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
The album reminds me of a throw back to Public Enemy. There is almost none of that corny mess about how many guns, jewels, cars, and hoes. And as usual with Killer Mike there's all kinds of social commentary.

I've followed Killer Mike since his debut with the Dungeon Family, and supported his awards for it and his work after. The song "The whole World" was a national phenomenon. He has managed to dig out a firm base in the underground, with very solid follow up albums. This time he went with an East Coast producer, former Company Flow member, creator and owner of Def Jux records out of Brooklyn, and very active hip hopper El-P. Easily the best business decision Killer Mike has made. El-P not only has a very grounded idea of Hip Hop production, he does it so out side of the box so as not to be able to escape the signature. R.A.P Music is not only an incredible accomplishment for both artists...but is easily the best album Killer Mike has put out to date...and may well cement his place in Hip Hop history.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece May 17, 2012
By Solty
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
My jaws dropped when I first listened to this album. It was like the first time hearing Ice Cube's Death Certificate back in middle school. I remember how it was so raw and unapologetic and yet socially conscious and intelligent. These exact thoughts came to mind when I first heard R.A.P. Music. Mike Bigga took no prisoners on this one. Backed by El-P's ingenious and hard hitting beats, Killer Mike delivers his high energy rhymes with a furious tenacity that hasn't been seen in rap for quite some time. These two highly talented artists came together and cooked up a masterpiece. If you are a fan of rap, then you must support real rap and buy R.A.P. Music.

3.0 out of 5 stars warning warning warning January 23, 2013

If you are buying the Audio CD version from Amazon to take advantage of the AutoRip thing they're advertising, DO NOT DO THAT THING. The CD and associated AutoRip are the CLEAN version, even though you can't tell that here. And you will NOT be able to just change it out for the explicit version. Because this happened to me. And it sucked.

5.0 out of 5 stars I would have bought this for 19.99 easy May 16, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Always have been a fan of Killer Mike. This album by far has my consideration for Album of the year so far and its just May. To be honest I don't think a lot of Southern Rappers can ride to a beat by EL-P, hell not a lot of rappers at all now that I think about it, but Mike was flawless on just about every track. Even T.I. sounded decent. Fact of the matter is its a must buy for any hip hop head. You will not be sorry.
